After weeks of shopping around on the net - there are some advantages to being retired - I found a place in FL that sells both Sand Crab Rakes and Sand Spikes at very good prices! I haven't used either the rake or spike yet, they just came in today, but I can only tell you that based on their construction, I'm more than happy with them!!
1.) The Rake is made of very sturdy galvanized metal with an aluminum basket (8") and a 48" galvanized metal handle; can't be sure, but it looks like it will last for years (total cost, with shipping) $22.95* (found one at Big Fish in Seal Beach, $63+tax!!;
2.) Sand Spike (not fancy, but VERY STURDY) is also made of heavy duty galvanized tubing and very thick PVC cup, 36" (total cost, including shipping) $11*;
*By the way, this guy charges $10 flat rate shipping anywhere in U.S. (I added $5 to each price to cover it).
I'm going to be using both of them tomorrow, and let you know how they workout in the field.
