Nothing beats soft-shelled sandcrabs. If you can't find any softies, ghost shrimp are just as good. These baits will catch just about anything from perch to leopard sharks.

Jaysuuun, You got me thinking about Corbina. Dunno why FNNers don't target them ?
By far the best fighter pound for pound in the whitewater. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff221/CAuggie/corbina-1.jpg

When I was fishing Corbina 3 summers back I carried a cheap plastic pasta strainer.

Locate the crab beds then scoop a handfull into the strainer. Then the next wave that's comes in lower into the water and all the sand goes away.

Then you get 1 or 2 softies (if your lucky) for every 20. I put the softies in my surf trunks pocket. I found by useing a strainer you can sort them and get more much alot faster.

DR, jerryG is a corbina expert, as is his buddy sharkbait. I targeted corbina for 2 summers exclusively with my friends Big Steve before I got into halibut fishing and we both got to be pretty decent at catching them. They are a fun fish to catch on 4lb, but would rather through large hard baits since the fish that bite them are larger. Fly fishing for them would probably be a lot of fun, but I've never done it.

The only bait i use in the surf is Mussel and Sand Crabs the work great for me. Here is what i got using Sand Crabs and Mussel.

I got this fish with sand crabs.

When targeting Corbina, I keep it simple. Just a Hook and line, with a small 3/4 oz rubber-core sinker. (you know, the twist-ons)

Quicker than a C-rig, no swivels, and the only break-point is the knot on the hook. Try that out sometime on the surf.

Pros: Quick, light, "leader"-length can be customized in milliseconds, no break-points. No swivels needed.

Cons: Often flimsy, rubbercores are easily smashed or destroyed, can cause a little bit of line-twist if carelessly used.

There's not really much else to say... Most of this was covered in the previous topic.

However, if you're looking for new baits to try out......

Innkeeper Worms, Sea-roaches, Bean-clams, and juvenile purple shore-crabs ("sidewinders") are all effective.

(Sea-roaches will give you trouble, they are lightning-fast. Good luck catching 'em)
