Newport beach 3 22 2011

Hey guys,

Went to Newport today in search of some surf perch, which I found after about 30 minutes of searching for structure and walking up and down the beach.

TOTAL COUNT: 27 SURF PERCH (NO PIGS TODAY ). SMALL STUFF BUT STILL HAD A GREAT TIME CATCHING THEM!

LITERALLY HAD ABOUT 80 BITES, ACTION WAS CONSISTENT ONCE I FOUND THEM. BETWEEN THE SIZE OF THE FISH AND THE INCOMING SURGE, MISSED QUITE A FEW!

thanks guys...yeah i have a great spot in Laguna that usually produces better quality..but at $4 a gallon and an F250 I had to stay local...lol

Not sure what part of NB you were at, but I've gone to "west NB" three times, and the quality (size) has been outstanding, no dinks at all ... Besides, WNB is FREE beach access; by the way, same rig/bait ...

I also fish newport for perch...and i got a pretty nice hole that produces quality fist...and FREE parking!

So far PB from newport is 17"

Im callin bs with out pix wheres the other eleven???hahahah just playin man good job on slayin the perch thats alot better view than I had all day....... droped shoted the surf sat in np for nathan im thinkin perch set up next time!!!...I hear you about parking down there!!! no room for my rig anywhere!!

WTG on the pearch! i was down there the day after the tsunami & only got 2 short bass and a few dink perch. the bite was on, but i kept getting broke off on the muscles on the rocks. we didn't hit the surf at all, guess we should have, lol

lmao...dude i was tired of takin pics of dinks....the last pic i took as i was takin the pic a wave came by and my reel got SOAKED! now i gotta take it apart...after that i told myself no more dink pics...lol

i should have had 80....those dinks were CHEWING!! lol

yeah they were chewing..i would have prob had a LOT more if i downsized my hook..lol....

i usually go through the alley ways of the complexes and find a spot...but then again i never really fish there on the weekends when its busy.

thanks J...yeah...this is by FAR the smallest perch slay ive ever had....every trip Ive ever made in the surf i might get a couple dinks..then the rest have been nice-very nice..lol...yeah..the elusive corbina...im sure some of the surf gurus on here will tell you where to get those (i mean you CAN get them here, but im sure as with most fish, there are better spots for those than i know, lol)....

ever fish the section of tidepools in corona del mar? (The ones outside of the Robert E. bedham area)? A portion of the tidepools lies outside the conservation area, so you can use sandcrabs and ghost shrimp legally.

Sometime getting onto a hot quantity bite and flipping them off is way more fun than taking a few pics of 1 or 2 pigs and a lot of casting practice.

Thanks for the report and nice to see a change of venues! You did not miss much by foregoing the Spotties!
