took the kids to the beach today. pretty crowded everywhere but el segundo looked empty so checked it out. right by the water treatment plant. got there around 1:45 pm. a little after high tide. water was pretty clear. lots of small seaweed. water was pretty warm and straight.

anyway, i have been looking to hook a bean since early june. have been seeing them everywhere i go but can't seem to hook one! start to look for crabs. first time i didn't see beds all over the place... so had to really look. this may have been a good thing. so with some digging, i luck out and find a soft shell with roe... hook that baby carefully and sure enough, second cast, my first hook up. carolina rig with a 3 foot leader. oh the memories of the fight... beans really are fun to catch. so after the runs and stuff, i bring him in... looks like 18 inches... :D

can't unhook it as i let him take the bait (didn't want to take a chance on the first one of the season) so loose my hook in letting it go... end up catching one more bean and a barred perch for fun... but kids got hungry and we don't keep the fish, so got to go. left at 4 pm but felt very satisfied.... what was interesting is that i have been fishing where there have been loads of crab beds beneath my feet and i have seen the beans all around... today, those beds were not there but the beans were... maybe that's why they took my bait... hehehe...

btw, i was at the marina the other day catching a grip of spotties but way to small to do anything but just have fun... like bluegill... but then i caught this thing. it was prego and didn't know what it was... can anyone tell me what this is?

it isn't freakish but i never saw anything like it... it's got a really tiny mouth....

thanks.

tight lines everyone.

That is a Rock Wrasse. Senorita fish don't have the same markings and are generally smaller around Cat I. Nice fish
