Hey what time of year do the stripers start to eat bait...Is it water temp they are looking for? April?

All year long they eat bait. The late april thru june bite i think is the best time.

I'd guess to see a bait bite developing end of this month maybe mid next month....if it follows past history/seasons etc.
Something should be coming on soon nuff : )
Always hard to predict though as the fish don't see any calendar...they do their thing when conditions are right...water temps reaching 60 degrees should produce

Gary's got it right.
This pause in the bite mid winter is common at Castaic.
I've heard that they"re moving up on the points. I wouldn't be surprised if they start biting at the new moon. I'm going to try this weekend though. I can't wait. They might bite in the spots for short periods.
