Do you think storing rods sealed in the shipping tube they came in is O.K. ?Or do they need to breathe or something.

They should be just fine that way in a dry place. I have 30 year old rods stored like that and they are like new and still use them.

Of equal importance is that you never store your reels with monofiliment in the sunlight. It's best
to remove them from the rods and store them in a drawer away from the ultra violet and O-Zone.
