Iron Halibut?

I have a question, and I welcome everyone's input: when i was a kid, and that's a long, long time ago (most popular kids' TV shows: Sheriff John, Engineer Bill and Hop along Cassidy - or the early 50's), i did a lot of fishing on and near Manhattan Beach Pier. At that time, we caught all of our inshore halibut by throwing iron (candy bar jigs, etc.). Yet on most, if not all the posts i read now, it's LC this, Rapala that, BH this, etc.). the QUESTION IS: anyone toss iron at them anymore?! Just askin' ...

I've seen people catch fish with tady jigs in the harbor. Mainly slimesticks and toad sandies.

I think Mike tossed some irons a while back.. Didn't he catch fish too?
