I did another one of those evening winter bass/lobster trip with my friend Dennis. We decide not to stay local and make the long ride up the coast to harvest those big lobsters that has been roaming the squid grounds all season long. We arrived pretty early to our lobster hole and had some time to kill. We filled that dead time up by setting up along the kelp line and structure and had a very nice pick on the calico bass. Lots of cookie cutter sportcoats with some 3-4lbers mixed in. After we put the hurt on the bass, the sun was already coming down. We dropped our nets and got lucky once again. Plenty of big bugs averaging an estimated 5-8lbs each. Done by 9-ish and made the long trek back home. Picture evidences of a good time:

Start the fun with some of these.

The nicer grade callys started getting hungry.

We ran into some by catches.

Double by-catch. Poor man's lobster and a sand bass with some tiger stripes. All bass and sheepshead were released. We prefer the real lobster than the poor man's one. Plus they are not in season.

Let the real fun begin.

Note to self: Buy a bigger cooler cause only 4 big lobster would barely fit into the current cooler.

Thats it. Had a great time on the water. This might be our last lobster trip of the season, maybe get one more local lobster trip in. But definitely our last trip to the land of the giant lobsters on Malibu coastline for the 2010/2011 interval. This has been an exceptional lobster season for us. We learned a lot and figured out some new techniques this time around. Put a wealth of new lobster gps coordinates to our ever expanding chartplotter. The new topo maps has been my best friend this season. See you all next time ...probably on the rockfish opener.
