It has been a long time since I last posted a report, so I thought I would show you some of the fish from my last few trips. I usually do not start booking trips until March, as the weather can be weird, but this year I have had a lot of out of state customers who wanted to fish while they were in the area.

Yesterday was the first trip this year with someone from California. Most clients have come from Texas, Chicago, Atlanta, and the east coast. One of my clients from last weekend is Jim Warwick. He played professional baseball with the Baltimore Orioles, and was a team mate of Cal Ripken Jr. I heard some great baseball stories from him.

The fishing has been surprisingly good for the winter. Most trips are averaging about 12 to 14 fish per day, but yesterday it jumped up to 18. The first wave of fish moved shallow this week, with a lot of fish being hooked in 2 to 3 feet of water.

The baits being used at this time have been jigs, spinnerbaits, cranks, jerkbaits, and plastics. The bite is going off early this year, as the water temperature is only 54 degrees. It looks like it is going to be an awesome spring.

Dr. Dan from Chicago.

Great to see the good post from Vail Art.
After this hopefully last cold blast this weekend, things should really start to go off.
Keep the post coming!

It was a different story for today, as today saw only 5 fish in the boat, and 3 others farmed. It was very cold today. One weather site is calling for 3 inches of snow in Temecula tonight. I doubt it. We will see.

Hello Art,
My name is Robert and live over here in Murrieta.
I have driven by Vail lake numerous times and have been told different things, by different people.
My question is, is Vail lake open to the public or not?
I'm just curious. I'm not a fresh water guy.
Thanks for the info.

Hi Robert,

Vail is a private, membership only lake. The public is allowed to fish from shore for a fee of $10.00. You can go into the office at the lake entrance to pay. Give me a call if you need any further information.
