Going to a overnight trip on april but don't know to which one, i never been to no overnight trips so i don't know how this works. I am going on one from san diego, just don't know to which one yet. I'm not looking for a trip worth no more then $200.00. Anyone knows any landing in sand diego that's worth a lot, i wanna catch my first yt or my first sb. Someone please help, i been waiting for this trip and i hope it's worth it. By the way, what starts biting on april?

Thanks

Uhhh... rockfish some yt, some butt, depends where you fish and what kind of bait. I'm waiting for WSB to come up and then i'll head out to catalina for an overnight, if you want to come my boat can sleeps 3 and just pitch in for gas and bait

I'll probably go around mid march, or whenever it warms up. Right now the water is too cold and I don't like bottom fishing too much (unless its for those butts)

It looks like you set a $200 price for your trip? You can find a few trips this time of year for that price but once something other than rockfish starts to bite I don't think you'll be able to find a day and a half for that price. If fuel prices keep going up most of the boats will be adding a fuel surcharge to the regular price, and if you fish in Mexican waters most boats also charge for the Mexican permit. You also need to bring extra money for food, fish cleaning, and tipping the crew.

Really, that's cool. What type of fish do they target on that boat?

The one's that will bite your hook. :Envious:

Yo-yo for yellows in the morning and hope that they are there. Then the rest of the day is rockfish. That's the usual game plan.

Here are their fish counts ...

Boat Trip Type Anglers Catch
02-06-2011 1.5 Day 33 330 Rockfish
01-30-2011 1.5 Day 32 304 Rockfish, 16 Lingcod
01-23-2011 1.5 Day 30 162 Rockfish, 46 Lingcod
01-16-2011 1.5 Day 31 262 Rockfish, 40 Lingcod
01-09-2011 1.5 Day 29 145 Rockfish, 71 Lingcod

The 1.5 day trips are $195 until April 3rd - according to their schedule the price goes up to $275 after that.

I noticed you were asking about landings - IMHO its probably better to spend some time learning about the boats. Some are older, smaller, and more basic (like open bunks with 25-30 guys sleeping in the same bunkroom and/or only saltwater in the heads and no showers). I haven't been to the Fred Hall show in several years but each landing usually has a booth that is staffed by a couple of captains. They can answer just about any questions you have, including recommending tackle to take on the trip.

yeah maybe i am going to have to go to the fred hall show. hmm, im thinking there's a lot to be know for those kind of trips, im backing out. I wanna get some yt or at least some sand bass.... I don't wanna drive all the way overthere for rockfish. I could just get on an overnight here and catch that lol

At this weather you're gonna be pulling bottom dwellers. But yt won't start coming around until mid april or late april. + with the gas prices going up I would just save my money and time for summer fishing. WSB is another possibility at this time. But for yt i say wait until you see them on the fishing report.

I've been to Colonett in Jan and Feb and have pulled yellow's outta there. Not common but it's possible.
