Walked up on a friend at the Fin Sunday afternoon and see this freak fish.. Never seen such a fat ***.. Gerth was as big as the length.. Weight was 10.10. At first look,, thought it was a piggie bass...

Thx for the pic. I love the small head, football bodied rainbow and he actually has a pretty decent tail which is lacking with most models. Score!

I want to know what was in that gut cause that is no powerbait gut.

It says this thread is moved. Where did it move to? Is it in the abyss? I can't find it anywhere but here so maybe it didn't move after all?

Eggs. My guess. He gave it away.

Are there any silverside minnows in the Fin? I imagine there have to be from the duct although that newer fine mesh screen for the turn out is not too friendly for stuff passing through like the open grates were.

I ask because I was getting trout on my duct striper lure, a Rapala X-Rap XR10 jerkbait, which is kind of big but mimics a silverside nicely. I have the silver and black back one on.

Yes there are linesides . Alot.. Warmer months they are all around the inlet. Some guys get em on small bare treble hooks and slay the crappie bass and gills on them. Fly lined in the current. I myself only lure fish and do good with the yo zuri pin mins, small tubes or cultivas. Fun stuff.

That trout could be loaded with them too? I guess we will never know since it was given away?

No doubt Yolo. But the few fish I have gutted had only fat and some had moss and junk bait. Aka power bait. Alot of fish with busted off leaders. These Lassen fish are real fresh. Not alot of caught fish have much as bait fish in there bellies. Fyi

Some of the ones we got had rocks in their stomach. They sure were very tasty the way my neighbor prepped and smoked them. Best trout I ever had. He said these were some of the best tasting ones he recalls getting and he has been going there a long time. He's not to into the trout eating but he liked this batch too.

No doubt. These fish with the cold water and alot of the fish have been in there since late December so the meat is firm and ritch orange flesh. Great eating. Once the water warms up into the high 50's or low 60's they dont eat well. Some smoke em, but I like them grilled or just pan fried with a light flour/corn meal and egg wash with some season salt and pepper. simple is best, imo.
Fished yesterday friday for the last hour or so in the rain but only scratched up 2. Bait dunkers were getting skunked. Gotta keep it moving.
