Just another day fishing in the OC , this time at Bolsa Chica Beach .
I get there right around sunrise . And yeah, it must of been skip work
and go surfing day , cause they were thick today ... lol

This time it diden't take long , i got into a wideopen Yellowfin Croaker fest .
Must of hooked 3 out of every 5 cast , nothing big , but nice and chunky !
These guys were hungry , and some scrappy fighters !!
Must of caught a dozen before moving on .

The smaller Perch were out in force again today , but i did get one that
put a good bend in my rod and kept me searcing for more. Fished for a few
hours befor heading out due to a mild case of hypothermia ... lol
Just kidding , but it was cool out there today , and wearing swim trunks
and flip flops do little to help ... lol

Ok , now back to the grind , I'll be working 8 days out of the next 9 :EyePop:
Until then , fish hard ...

Heres a few picks of the day >>>>>>

Hi Newfishsmell, I'm john. Today is my fist day on this site, and I have a couple questions for ya! I see you are using the berkely camo 2" sandworms, what kind of rig or setup do you use? How far out do you cast? I typically use a surf rig with a 2 oz pyramid, and let it sit ther (all bait) and I'm looking to start fishing with lures and berkely worms! Kind of a new twist lol. Any infor back on what exactly you use would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi John , welcome to FNN ...
As far as my rig or setup for grubs, i keep it simple. Im fishing a carolina rig with a 1/4 ounce to 1/2 ounce egg sinker and a barrel swivel, #6 or 8 baitholder hooks with 8lb mono. You may have to use more weight depending on conditions. Now, i've also used
a texas-rig & split shot-rig when i wanted to use less weight, and that also worked.

How far out do i cast - as far as i could, and still be able to set the hook ! that all depends on what type of line your using , rod length, and action of the rod.You just
have to feel it out with your gear. You dont have to cast far for the fish in the pics.

For example ... heres PaylakeRay from our trip on 2/14/11 .
we caught are biggest Perch were i marked the red line .
PaylakeRay & MTwiz were using the drop shot rig .

I think the most important part is, watching your line, keeping the slack out of your
line, and feeling the pick up.
Oh , and no bait fishing here John, just be willing to make 10,000 cast as i like to say ,
and walk 10,000 miles ... lol

Lots of good info on this forum from guys who fish the surf alot more then i do.
so soak it up , i know i do.
Good Luck , hope to see ya on the surf some time ...

2 oz pyramid is good for long casts in surf, sharks, rays, 20 lb set-up.

Newfishsmell spot really isn't surf fishing, more like back bay fishing,
except the perch pic.

Lighter set-up 1/2 oz carolina rig (sliding egg to a swivel) and a 18" leader.
Fish in tight, stay out of the surf unless you are going for longer casts with crankbaits.
Lot of action from the wet sand to 40' out.

Hey thanks buddy! Went out there today, surf conditions were CRAP. Not to mention the inshore winds that were present. That just made casting farther harder! I've got a simalar setup. I use trilene 6 lb smooth castin line, along with a 1/2 oz egg with a carolina keeper stopping it about 18 inches up. #6 red mosquito hook. I'm sure this will work! Thanks so much for the info! See ya out there!
