Hey all. Left around 1am from LB - smooth ride over to the island. Picked up a bit of small-med sized chovies at LA Bait, but half of 'em croaked on the way over as usual with my rig. 'Bout an hour and a half ride in fairly smooth seas though. Hung out around Long Point 'til dawn - a few small calico's but nothing special.
Dawn'ish - head to Avalon, pick up some live squid and begin working around the east end. Started with plastics around Church Rock - landed quite a few calico's, then started flylining live squid and it was wide open nearly every cast a fish. A lot of shorts, kept a few of the bigger ones.
Worked a ton of kelp beds through to China point. All pretty much calico's, no YellowTail sighted ... fished a lot from shore to ~100ft or so. Landed one WSB on live squid dropper loop, but it ended up short :( Then headed to Farnsworth bank for a little sculpin slaughter.
All in all a great day out there, great weather, smooth seas and definitely was nice to be out on a weekday with only a few other boats around all day long.
