After a SKUNK day at the PUDD today 02 07 2011 decided to try my tying skills again for some crayfish patterns. I vow to myself i wont be tossing plastic worms on my fly rod this season.

Black Zebra Midge with Clear Glass Bead ( purchased off ebay from HONG KONG)
this is my favorite pattern to tie and is the best for the early redear bite coming soon

My newest pattern for crawfish. Im still experimenting on materials. The problem is the weedless or in the case of fishing at Puddingstone (rockless). I have lost every new pattern so far. So no consistent fishing yet to see what works.

Very nice flies. That Zebra Midge has caught more large trout for me then any other fly. I tie it down to 24's. I really like your Crawdad. Does it ride upside down (sort of weedless)?

What's up with throwing plastic worms with the fly rod? Tie up some San Juan worms. They work just as well and you'll feel a lot better about fishing them.

This is my standard crawfish pattern. It can be tied upside down, and this gives is some weedless qualities. 50lb mono tied in a prong-style weedguard might help a bit with keeping the weeds off. This particular fly is more a of a trout pattern to me, but most bass don't eat big craws. A size 8 is actually a good representation of most craws that bass eat. I can't imagine they wouldn't eat it based on a smaller size.

Actually that crawfish patter is tied to a size 6 long shank hook ... i guess the close up makes it look big

i tried that mono method but still got hung up .... but im still exploring

thanks for the info
