Decided for the first trip of the year to hit up Lake casitas, I heard the shad where up there so figured it would be agood idea. Me and 2 freinds one of the freinds I am trying t oteach bass fishing so this was not exactly the outcome I was looking for. Got to the lake around 10 am and found out that the shad ahd disapeared about three days before we got there. (this trip was tuesday) So I figured the next best thing to live shad would be working plastics very slowly, drop shot, texas rig. tried robo's, flukes, bass assasins the works for nothing. Tried a huddelston shad of points in deep water again for nothing. after realizingthe bite was not there decided to break out the 8' 6" phenix swimbait rod and curado 300 and huck the big baits thinking if I am gonna get bit it will be a toad. threw the punker for a hour, tired 9" spro bbz for a hour nothing, tried the hudd rof 12 in deep water for a long time still for the skunk. right before we left at 4:30 my freind was jerking around a fluke and got hit by a decent sized rainbow that he farmed... all and all a very slow and skunky trip for the first of 2011...
