It been all about the winter bass as I hit Pyramid the last two Saturdays in a row - and strangely, none of the striped variety. I haven't seen any in the marina area, and few in the channel. I did meter some out in the open water, but real deep - not anywhere near the range for my fly rods. So I started chucking at rockwalls and shallow banks with dropoffs.
1-22 was an almost all-bronze day. Got a half dozen smallies.

I also got what could be a wild trout that came out of the creek. It sure didn't look like a stocker. It was real long and lean, had a round head, and perfect fins. It hit the shad fly too, and actually fought harder than the bass.
1-29 was all about the green bass. My buddy Kevin and I got a couple nice LM's...

After the sun hit the water, we put the fly rods away and out came the downrigger. we "mowed the lawn" for a couple hours, and saw schools at 60-90 feet, but couldn't get any of them to go. It has been a long time since I trolled, and my skills are definitely rusty. It was a nice change of pace, and I will probably keep at it as long as the stripers are hanging deep.
