For the last week and a half I have been reacquainting myself with Santa Fe Dam. I was there for the last DFG trout stock and took the oppertunity to slay 9 (all C&R) using a tiny Yo-Zuri lure. It was fun and all but I was hunting for a more formidable foe. Thats right Mr. Bass! I therw every plastic in the bag at them and walked the entire north side of the lake for nothing. Until today! Armed with with my light gear (6'8 Mojo bass spinning rod, shimano symetre with 6lbs trilene 100% flouro.)
Back to the bass, I got to the lake around 3:30 and did not see any fishermen took a walk on the north side of the lake to a nice spot and started tossing a "Baby Brush Hog" (watermelon/ red flake) and after about 5 cast felt that wonderful bump and watched as my line started swimming away. Now this is not my 1st bass but it's my 1st of 2011 so my heart was pumping I set the hook and began to reel. The bucket mouth exploded out the water and gave me nerve wreaking second (please dont come off) but the hook set was deep and I landed my first one of 2011. Hands shaking I hold the 3 maybe 4 #'r up (nothing to turn a nose up at) I fished for another hour for nothing but she was all I needed. I'm going to post a the pic I attempted to take but it does not give her justice but here is the fish porn. see you on the Lake!
