Work has had me out of the fishing loop the past six weeks and basically left me to fighting fish vicariously through your reports here on FNN. Wetting a line since the last gathering at Sarl has been minimal at best, so needless to say I was looking forward to a day on the water with a fish or two a bonus. From what I heard Saturday's potluck was of epic proportions, no surprise there as Team57 has it's fair share of chefs. Sorry I couldn't make it out there with you guys!
After a few hours of sleep my alarm rudely woke me up, but for the first time in what seems like an eternity I was relieved to know it was because I was finally going fishing! :Big Grin: The phone rang at 5am and my buddy John was waiting out in front less then 20 minutes later. John is more of a saltwater guy, he charters the Ranger85 a handful of times throughout the year and hasn't done much trout fishing, but he was amped about getting in on some trout and joining in on the fun at the latest stop on the Team57 tour! I grabbed some sandwiches on the way out the door, unloaded my gear from my truck and we were at the lake right as the gates opened. Not much of a line to speak of and we were in the rental office getting our boat 10 minutes later...thats when I realized I had forgotten the net, AGAIN! Oh well at least I didn't forget the beer
Headed towards the dam before jumping in the boat and saw LOTS of Team57 members poised and ready to get some rainbows on their stringers. Got a chance to hear some good stories from the night before, talk a lil smack and locate a net we could borrow from the man the myth Big Daddy...thank you Mark.
Grabbed the boat and headed opposite of th boat dock and settled into our spot. Fishing was a slow pick for most of the boats around us, but enough action to keep everyine on their toes. We were soaking various colors of pb, a crawler and orange plastic the first two hours without a nibble. Time to change it up. I grabbed a green power nymph, pinned on a Gulp salmonegg and dipped it into some Bite On Garlic...10 minutes later John's rod gets hammered, the sound of the peeling drag breaking the silence at last.
A short time later...John's biggest trout to date, I have a feeling with many more to come!

I thought the tail on this fish was worth taking an extra look at it....

Needless to say I replicated the the nymph combo and I was on the board as well!

We only managed the 3 fish, but we were two satisfied anglers who enjoyed a chance to soak up some sun and enjoy the day outdooors. I had friends at three other lakes in the southland and they were all dealing with wind issues. We had breezy conditions at times, but nothing that really took us off anchor until later in the day. I farmed another fish before we headed in to check out the weigh in and participate in another awesome Team57 raffle!

Walked over to where everyone was fishing and there were fish to be had for sure, APFish aka Adrain Pintor has been on fire the past couple of events...

A short time later we were treated to a fee raffle, lots of goodies for people to enjoy...I think everyone enjoyed watching Adrian win the flyrod Bebop had donated. He had been talking about that rod for months. Thank you to those that made the raffle possible, lots of people left with gear in hand and smiles on their faces. VERY COOL. We headed out on the boat after chatting for a bit in hopes of another fish or two, but it just wasn't meant to be. Although we did watch Dave 'Justin' Beaver put the hurt on a few fish while anchored out in front and I know doctorhook was hurting the fish as usual. We went on one last lap around the lake to hand deliver Big Daddy the net he lent us, when I spyed 1st mate BobberBoy and his wife! We came upon BD pulling on the infamous plug at Corona Lake

Headed to the cleaning station and we got a deboning lesson from one of the Corona regulars....is it "JD", help me here if you can guys.
