What better way to remember MLK Jr. then by fishing?

Launched the bass rig out of Embarcadero @ around 4:45 am. Still very dark for about an hour. I love that place - no attendant - crispy $10 into the machine and it's on!!!

We tossed plastics around the restaurant rocks for about 30 min for (2) sandies/spotties ...

Couldn't buy bait until about 7:30 b/c the douche @ the barge said we have a mandatory $30 purchase. We only had $15 for a small kayak scoop and a pack of smokes. Of course he refused the coin but took a Marlboro... Last time I give that little homo one of my smokes ... Dana Point Aq. and ATM was closed, so we had to re-dock and run over to Wells Fargo off PCH.

Fished the first part of the day outside the break walls for several sand bass, sm. hallies, croaker, and calicos. Live chovies on dropper loops and 3" BH (white) were the ticket. We decided to spend the latter part of the day dock hopping. I've only inner-bay fished NPH, so I figured I'd try the old tried and true.

Tossed 3"-5" anchovy-colored BH on 1/2 oz. heads ... smothered in Pro-Cure for 4 halibut and about 10 spotties! F-U-N !!! Hooked a BEAUTIFUL 25" flat-boy and safely released him ... GREAT DAY! Dana Point: I WILL be back! BTW, float-tubers out there? DANA POINT DOCK-HOPPING IS PERFECT FOR YOU! See ya out there...

Very cool, haven't fished DP in years. The next time you catch a halibut with a split tail, KEEP IT, its days are numbered. Happy birthday Reggie.

@ blackwater: yeah, I've heard about that.... However, it was also a p.b. tie for me, and poseidon code says man must release all p.b. halibuts .... Ha!! I feel bad for the little guy, but it wasn't me....I use wide pattern rubber nets only..... :)

Now there's somebody that get it! :Big Grin:
Congrats on the nice day on the water. The last time I was down in that area, I took one look at Doheny and walked away. That place was trashed.

Oh it STILL is! LOTS of garbage and SO much run-off from last month's rains ... The inner bay was rather clean, though ....

Nice day for you guys for sure!

I've had some fun times in that harbor. Even rescued one of those egrets that was hanging from a piece of mono in the tree!
Kudo's to you on the legal flattie release!

Thanks for the detailed report!

Good job on the fish, and nice pup you have there. I miss both of mine as they passed away about a year ago, within a few weeks of each other. Tight lines

That $30 minimum sucks, but at least it paid off. Congrats on the legal
