Great Night Before + Good Day of fishing with Multiple 1st (1-15-11)

I arrived at the lake Friday night around 6:30pm and met up with 2quik, BobberBoy, See Chris Fish, Thisfool, and more. I was the 1st to show up with a BBQ so they were sure glad to see me!

I promptly fired up the grill.

Not long after Big Daddy & Co. joined us with his grill, Porkchop, Killa, 5150 and a few others. We BBQ'd Texas Hotlinks, 2 different kinds of pork chops, tri-tip, chicken, corn, and more.

After all the grilling was done we threw some firewood in my grill to help add some warmth and glow to the air.

By 2am everyone had returned to their vehicles to try and catch some shut eye and rejuvinate. Good times, good times.....

We were the 2nd boat in line so Thisfool and I got launched and on the water by 6:20am. Here's a pic I snapped shortly after leaving the dock.

I started out trolling a Needlefish on my new/old leadcore rig and a Rapala CD05 on my other rig. Thisfool was using various lures including Rapala's, Diawa's, and more. Everything was dipped in Bite-On Garlic for that added kick! This was my 1st time trolling with leadcore and also my 1st time using a Needlefish. It didn't take long and my leadcore rig started doing the trout pole dance and before long I had landed my 1st ever fish on leadcore and my 1st fish on a Needlefish! Whoo hoo! By 1:30pm I had caught 4 and Thisfool had 0 and we missed many more. We decided to head in and get some lunch and a raffle ticket + watch the end of the weigh-ins. Here's some pics of my 2nd and 3rd fish.

At this point I was feeling pretty bad for Thisfool. I did feel alittle better though when he won a free gate pass from the raffle. After lunch we headed back out to try and get my limit and get Thisfool on some fish. Towards the end of mid-lake by the dam both Thisfool's rods started going off. He grabs one and starts fighting it and I grabbed the other and just helped keep the line tight. He got his 1st fish close enough to the boat I could net it with one hand while holding his other rod in my other hand. As soon as I got his 1st fish in the boat I handed his 2nd rod/fish over to him while I quickly cleared the 1st fish from the net. Mission accomplished, Thisfool's 1st ever double hook-up! Whoo hoo!

By the time Jerry was chasing everyone off the lake I had managed to get my 5th fish (limit) and Thisfool landed 2 more for a total of 9 fish. We easily missed just as many if not more through-out the day. The fishing was on fire today and the next 2 days should be just as good. Maybe i'll see ya'll out there again Monday.

Chris, thanks to you and Bobberboy for saving me a spot on shore to fish from because your prediction of seeing me back on shore within 20 minutes wasn't far from true. After taking white caps over the yak and apparently loosing my net in the process I was glad my boys left some room for me. And thanks for chasing me around with the net on my "one that got away" damn it.

i got a question tho mav cuz we had got 9 fish on the boat that day but easily missed at least 6 fish and i dont mean got a quick bite then no fish i mean we were fighting the fish for a few seconds then line just goes lose. i changed out all my hooks newer much sharper hooks well they have a trip or two on them. why are we losing fish like that

Happens to me also.
My thought is that the fish is head shaking or rolling and the hook locks or binds against the ring which holds the hook onto the lure. It then "locks" and the fish is able to shake off the lure.
I plan is to replace the stock hooks with a "swizel type hook" , which spins on it's axis, so no binding.

At least, that's the plan.

I think it depends on how hard the fish are fighting that day and how comitted they are to taking the bait when they strike. While me missed just as many as we landed Saturday, when I went back Monday I landed every fish that hit my lures, no misses at all that day.
