What kind of cheese do you guys use for trout? Val Verde, velle vidal, or valbreso?

Velveeta. Velveeta works GREAT. I've caught tons of trout with it.

Caught lots of kitties with it too. It has a nice strong cheesy smell.

I dont use it alone though, usually I'll take some fish flake food, some shrimp, or other tasty enhancers, process them in my magic bullet, microwave the velveeta, then mix it all up, then I put it back in the fridge.

The beauty of this, is you can make several different versions in one night really quickly.

I bet some finely-ground fresh earthworms would make it killer!

(though velveeta DOES work on it's own)

I use it with an inflated nightcrawler when powerbait fails me.

Under a bobber/slip-bobber if you use the velveeta by itself, or with an inflated nightcrawler.

Stockers usually arent too picky about what they eat, after all for most of their lives they were eating pellets.

Like all fish, one moment they're all over one type of bait, the next they ignore it all and only hit kastmasters/lures

I'm old enough to remember when the only trout baits were velveeta, worms, marshmellows and zekes. Small treble hook under a bobber or on the bottom with a sliding sinker both work. Unless they changed the formula it doesn't float. Used to catch a bunch of trout and bluegill fishing it under a bobber.

And then you can come home and make some nachos.

That's the lovely thing about Velveeta.

Actually the ''old'' Velveeta was non pasturized and had a milking effect. The new stuff does not work as well.

Used to mix Velveeta/Garlic Powder and Salmon Eggs in a small pot and it killed the trout and cats.

Thanks for the update on the formula. I haven't used it for about 30 years so can't say how the new formula works. Seeing your comment about salmon eggs reminded me we also used to use "balls o fire" salmon eggs in the glass jar with the green lid.

Gouda and Camembert, not necessarily in that order, are without question the best possible bait for DD trout. You can usually find a good selection of each at Trader Joe's. If you just want to catch the dinks, stick with the Velveeta, but the hogs are much more discriminating.

Hey CraigH, you must be as ancient as me. I remember the " balls o fire salmon eggs " also and would use Velveeta for trout back in the old days with salmon eggs.

Try Velveeta chunks soaked in Anise Oil, it also works good. Another ancient geezer said that ! :EyePop: :EyePop: :EyePop:

Back in the day we use to use stuff called Targee or Targy, not sure of the spelling. But talk about stanky that @%&* stunk. Two days after fishing you could still smell it on you.

I used to fish Puddingstone when I was a kid in the late 1960's. Guess that does make me ancient.

Smokehound - I'm thinking limburger would work better on German Brown trout.

I was just teasing the OP...Hopefully its all good ..My late father had told me that's how he used to fish for trout back in the day. I'm fairly sure he tried that a time or two with me back in the 70's when I was a youngster.
