Fished a creek I haven't hit in a while. Flows were up, and the fish were scattered. Tried some nymphing when i first got there but wasn't gettin the love i was lookin for. Threw on a size 12, brown crystal bugger and started stickin 'em.

You have some insight....finding fish when locals are so swollen with water and the extreme cold gripping the southland. I also like the respect you show the fish with several of the pics.....especially the gentle release. Beats the dragging fish through the mud and grass and posing with the reel shot. Well done.

The Wooly Bugger tied very small (10-14) with a short tail and attached as a dropper on a Pheasant Tail or Hare's ear can be very successful. Fished as nymph downstream and stripped back.....the fish see the Bugger "chasing" the nymph and often attack with a vengeance. Obviously, what you were doing is also very successful as well.

Tandem fly set ups are were it's at! I have never tried that setup, with the bugger as the dropper, but I definitley see how that rig could bring some big fish out. Especially pig browns!!!!! I have however tried a flashy bugger or any other streamer for that matter and then trailed it by a small nymph (either dead drifting or strpping). The idea is that the larger fly will often get the fish interested, and when the nymph came swimming by, they'd jump on it. You learn something new everyday. Can't wait to try that setup.

You've got the local creeks dialed in like nobody's business.... great job as always.... water looks pretty good all things considered
