Back In The Duct Saddle Again

Could not take it anymore and had to make a quick duct detour. Back is a little better and I had to go take care of a fix it ticket so since I was out and about and had the rod in the truck I decided to go hit the water to cure my withdrawals.

Not going to make a long report cause I'm back in bed with the laptop so I don't feel like typing too much but I nailed a total of four. Smallest 22" to the largest at 28". Released 3 and kept 1. The one keeper was for bassnmanmike who asked me to save a fish for him.

Water was ripping wide open and color was quite murky. Maybe that chocolate Bako water finally made it down here?

Thanks all. It felt great but the boss was mad at me for sneaking out. She only found out cause I came home with a fish for Mike. You got me busted Mike :Big Grin: She said if I'm in pain tonight don't go whining to her.

Forgot to mention that the stomach was empty. She had 2 big egg sacks and they were turning color. It's like they want to spawn soon. This warmer than normal winter and full flow still this time of year has them confused. I am almost willing to bet my life that the other 3 released ones were probably males. I will throw it out there that they were hanging with the female thinking they want to spawn but way, way too early. Although it's early for me, if the conditions are right, they will do what they do. It's not very common to nail 4 fish in the AV in less than an hour and probably closer to 1/2 hour cause after the fourth one, I tried to get some more but no more for the next 1/2 hour that I am counting in my hour of fishing this spot.

Were you baiting and waiting near main street? i passed by there and saw a guy on a chair with 2 rods in the water near the pass and nailing them at that lol

Also it's not just a tube bait but the best quality, most durable and somewhat unique tube bait with the large and thick tenticles. Everyone go get one or two or a dozen. Made by Basstrix. Sold at Bob Sands or Tackle Warehouse. I don't mind sending business to the Basstrix product cause I have been really impressed by their tube and their soft jerkbaits nail em too. Please do not ask for a tickler, lol. That is just what I called it. :LOL:

I am not sure if having the tickler is enough. You have to know how to use it. :Embarrassed: KPN's seem to work well also but not everyone can produce unless they fish hard and the right way.

Too cold here too but it's just a thought cause it hasn't been that cold of a winter generally speaking and the water has been ripping and the fish grouping and the females with ever increasing maturing eggs.

Sawoobley, That's the same Basstrix Tube. I caught like 18 fish on the same tube before it ripped on top and I could have still used it to catch more but I rigged a new one.

I was using that tube for the first time today at the duct thanks to the advice from yolo.Even though I didnt catch any cause i dont have mad skillz like him I can tell by the action it has, it is the best one.I did not know they make jerk baits though I have to get some after being very impressed with the tube

Thanks Hai. Good luck tonight if you go? Dress warm. Wind is getting nasty. Went out today for several hours and got a big 'ole skunk. Like I always say. There one day and gone the next. That's the duct. No reason to be spot paranoid. I can definitely tell you where they are not at, lol. Then again that can turn and change by the hour? Anyway I'm rambling now and making too much sense so I will stop. Must be the pain medication?

Places that have produced fish and also produced skunks. 72nd, Cheseboro, 47th, 42nd, Barrel Springs, Pearblossom Hwy, Sierra Hwy, Tierra Subida, Ave S, 60th, 70th, Johnson, Munz, 160th, 170th, 180th except the homeowner there is an arse hole, 195th, Ave F, Lancaster Rd., SR 138, 3 points, 280th, 300th. From there you can hop on I-5 and go over the hill. From there one can hit up SR166 and all the dirt farm roads, SR166, Old River Rd., Basic School Rd., 33 to Cadet Rd., Gardener Field, Golf Course Rd., Ironbark, SR119, Tupman, Freeborn, Buttonwillow, SR58, Lokern, 7th standard, Lerdo Hwy, Lost Hills Rd., SR46 and that's just off the top of my medicated head. They can be there or anywhere in between or nowhere if they are not biting. Am I glad I got all that off my chest :LOL:

Went out last night. 30-35 MPH wind! Although Khanh & I managed a hookup for each but not landed. My 15 lb test line was saw off after about 10 seconds into the battle.

That's a bummer. It can definitely happen next to the little duct structure there is. I don't know if you know or not but depending on where and what the circumstances are, just bury your rod tip under water and let em run. Pray for enough line and you can still work them with the rod tip under water. Try it next time if you have not already.
