View Full Version : Christmas Day Halibut for Mom. S.W.A.T. Solo Mission 12/25/10. Bonus 1/16/11 Report!

Attended Midnight Mass with my family last night. After the service, we all went to my parents house to open presents. My Mom asked me what I was doing Christmas morning... I replied, "I'm going to bring you home a Halibut for Christmas dinner Mom." She says that she will bake it Vietnamese style if I brought one home. Vietnamese crispy oven baked fish are usually done with Catfish, but with a Halibut... it's Heavenly. :Thumbs Up:
As I am typing this report on my laptop at my parents home... the Flattie is in the oven. :Dancing Banana:

I got home around 4:00am and threw some gear in the car and took off. I was on a special mission today, not for S.W.A.T. , but for Mom.
Hit the South O.C. area at grey light. I figured that I start South and work my way North until I get a legal and head home... easier said than done.

Conditions at the first spot was great except for one major factor, water clarity. Swells were relatively flat, little salad, detected some baitfish... but the water was like milk chocolate.
I gave it a go for a couple of hours for three Perch, a couple of Yellow Fin Croakers and a Shovelnose.
NOT what I was looking for...

Looks pretty good from up here...

But when you get down to the beach.

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/002-9.jpg

This 3 ft. Shovelnose really fooled me big time. Felt just like a big Halibut. Great fight complete with headshakes and all... I was so disappointed when I saw it come out of the surf.
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/031.jpg

Had enough of the 1st spot and took off to the next spot, walked down to the beach and was disgusted at what I saw...
There were so much debris on the beach and in the water that it was pretty much unfishable.
Didn't even make a single cast, walked back to the car and headed for the third and final spot. Telling myself, this is it... this last spot has got to pay off, it's crunch time. I can't disappoint Mom on Christmas day. :Embarrassed:
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/016-3.jpg

Got to the last spot and saw that conditions was pretty decent. Not perfect by any means, but just good enough that I can at least work the LC. Some clear spots in between the murky brown water and there weren't nearly as much crap floating in the water as the other areas. Definitely has some potential.

Really flat conditions... love it!
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/017-3.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/012-5.jpg

Still murky in most areas and a lot of floating debris, but manageable.
Water clarity isn't great, but better than the last spot, I'll take it.
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/018-1.jpg

Floating kelp mass everywhere...
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/009-6.jpg

Almost got my feet taken out from under me by this floating log.
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/010-5.jpg

Started tossing the LC with reckless abandonment. Throwing it on top of boilers and through kelp beds... trying everything to get that one legal Halibut to bite. Caught a few short Flatties and lost TWO LC's in the process! My Shad/Sardine hybrid and the Metallic Ayu. But I'd trade ten LC's for just one 22" legal Halibut right about now.
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/005-5.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/083-3.jpg

A couple of hours passed and my mind started to wander... I was thinking to myself, how in the heck am I going to find a fish market that opens on Christmas Day.
Then it happened... I lost the Metallic Ayu LC on a boiler rock and was going into my pack to get another LC. I saw the Killer Shrimp pattern that I bought from Bass Pro Shop a few weeks ago just for kicks. Only threw it brieftly when Exfactor, Flyngby and I decided to hit the surf for a couple of hours after the MLPA meeting in Santa Barbara about a week ago... Why not, let's tie it on... and so I did.
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/017-2.jpg

Three casts later... VICTORY at last! :Big Grin:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/016-2.jpg

Your soul belongs to Poseidon... but your a** belongs to Mom!
Damn... I didn't bring anything to put this fish in...
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/011-5.jpg

Mission ACCOMPLISHED! Wouldn't you know it, when I brought the fish home, my brothers and sister asked me where is the receipt from the fish market?!? I pulled out my camera and said, "Here's your receipt!"

Well, been a little while since my last report. Work has been pretty hectic with the Holiday season. It felt good to get back into the surf. Hopefully, when things settles down after the New Year, I can get back out there more often.

What a perfect day... even though I didn't get my personal best fish like I did last Christmas Day. It felt good to deliver on a promise to Mom. :Big Grin: Dinner is ready, gotta go eat and submit this report later!

I hope that all of you are having a wonderful Christmas. Surrounded by love ones and enjoying all of your gifts... from the ones under the tree to the bounty on your dinner table. God bless us all... everyone.

I guess you will sleep when your dead........major christmas hours spent being the one and only Arthur! Not surprised that you got bit on that lure, looks sexy if you ask me. Those are clumps of squid eggs Arthur. When you hook about 30 pounds of them making squid, it really sucks. Probably why those fish are there too. And, you fished that barometer change today, and guess what? Glad you fulfilled your promise to mom, and yourself.

Nice job on getting your mom the christmas flatty Arthur. Man your mom can cook, i think she could be an Iron Chef or something. We all know about those world fanous eggrolls. :Thumbs Up: Anyways, sorry you didn't make it to the christmas party, but i know that family comes first. You've always been one with your priorities straight. May the new year brings you many more legal flatties.

Take care bro,

I'll have to clarify the story but I'm still excited that you were able to come through for your Mom.http://yoursmiles.org/tsmile/rulez/t2009.gifhttp://yoursmiles.org/tsmile/rulez/t2009.gif

That was a fantastic dinner bro, better than that Vietnamese restaurant that we go to. I keep telling mom to open a restaurant. She was sure that you were bringing a fish home, she didn't even prepare the usual main dish. I was teasing her that we might have to eat Top Ramen for dinner. Thanks for the presents and don't forget to come over after New Year to help take down the Christmas lights.

What a good son your are. Your mom called my mom this morning and now my mom want a Halibut for New Year's day dinner, thanks alot buddy! Now where did you say that fish market was??? You are the luckiest guy I know and your timing is impecable as always. Way to call the shots as you were telling me a few days ago that you were going to get that Halibut for your mom and you did just that. :Big Grin: I didn't make it to Binh's Christmas party either but I heard from Vince that it was phenomenal. Still planning to go to Vegas for New Years buddy? Make sure that you leave me the keys to that CL before you leave because our bet expires on midnight 12/31.

By the way, thank you for all the Christmas presents, Maddie adores her gift from Uncle Arthur. She won't put that thing down and carrying it all over the house. And Lauren just loves her EVO, I can't get her to stop playing with that damn phone. You sure have a way with the ladies. As for me and the SWAT Crew, I got the box from Fed Ex on Christmas Eve. Just perfect Arthur, Bones is right, we all have alot to "pay forward" as you refuse to receive anything in return. But good things happens to good people and the MAN upstairs have treated you well in life for your kindness. We are all grateful for your friendship.

Ca nuong - Hey Scott, that's the exact recipe. Ca nuong translate to baked fish in English. It's one of the most popular Vietnamese dish and are available at most Vietnamese restaurants. Probably only second to Pho in popularity. But I'm sure that it doesn't compare to Wingnut mom's home recipe. If you guys haven't tried this dish, you're missing out big time.

Arthur, very well done my friend. While your were out on your Halibut mission for your mom, I was nursing a major hangover from the Christmas party. Everybody was asking about you bro, but we always have the New Year to party it up together.

If I know Arthur........He quite simply would have kept his promiss to poseidon and released the PB and then told himself...."They are here" and then promptly stuck the 28 for mom! Arthur is definately a man of his word and ALWAYS keeps his promisses.

excellent question!!!

That is an excellent question. My answer will neither be elaborate or clever... but rather, honest.

The perfect scenario would be that I catch a decent size legal Halibut early. Bag & tag it for Mom and my mission is complete. Continue fishing and get my personal best Halibut later and release it, in keeping with the S.W.A.T. Creed of always releasing your PB fish.

But if I were to catch the PB Halibut first, the decision for me would be an easy one. Mom would have her Christmas Halibut. My promise to Mom would supercede "any" S.W.A.T. Code.

The "Code" was never meant to be enforce with fire & brimstone, but rather a personal challenge for us to always chase the bigger and better prize. It is left up to each S.W.A.T. member's discretion to do whatever he or she feel is right. Robert, when you caught your PB Halibut a few weeks ago with Bones and I, did we pressure you in any way to release the fish? I knew that it was your personal best Halibut, but I said if you want to keep it, go ahead and do it. It would not change my opinion of you in any way. You decided to release it and I commended you for it.

So there's your answer... I would have brought that PB fish home if it was the only legal Halibut I caught that day. Breaking the "Code" is a small price to pay to see that beautiful smile from Mom. Afterall, that PB fish may not hold up for too long anyway...

excellent question!!!

I have no doubt that Arthur would have released a PB and been rewarded with "Moms X'mas Gift" later even if he had to continue his travels from the San Diego / Orange County line all the way well into Santa Barbara County. Dinner might have turned into breakfast but he would have "Got-r-Done" :My Two Cents:

Persistence and determination is rewarded. Arthur sets his own tough goals, and as he usually puts it "I am one Lucky Man" I say those that "Pay it Forward" as Arthur does so often are rewarded well!

I had the opportunity to spend some time with Arthur post X'MAS day after we both slept in late, met him at about 11am and went for a little journey back down into the OC!

During the 45 min drive I barley was able to get a word in as he talked about what a wonderful day he had, from the midnight mass with family, the trip in search of the Mom's Gift, to the wonderful meal and family time.

Does he look tired? :Tired: He can hardly wait to see what is over the horizon! :Guns:

Your kindness towards so many others is very admirable and I think I can speak for all of the SWAT team when I tell you........Thanks for being "You". We all have so much to "Pay Forward" Arthur. It's mind staggering sometimes to be honest. The world would be a much better place with more people like you!
Dana is smiling my friend......Merry XMAS

---------<><
I know you've had a lot on your plate lately Mike and you've dealt with adversity with class and dignity. May the New Year be a much better one for all of us. No worries on whatever comes from me... continue to "Pay it Forward." Eventually, it will find its way back to me... in this lifetime, or the next.

Very nice! Great pics and great post! That's what i call a Merry Christmas.
Thank you... and a Merry Christmas it was! :Big Grin:

I guess you will sleep when your dead........major christmas hours spent being the one and only Arthur! Not surprised that you got bit on that lure, looks sexy if you ask me. Those are clumps of squid eggs Arthur. When you hook about 30 pounds of them making squid, it really sucks. Probably why those fish are there too. And, you fished that barometer change today, and guess what? Glad you fulfilled your promise to mom, and yourself.
48 hours with no sleep is a piece of cake Mikey. I was ready to head out again with you on Sunday if the weather cooperated. Thanks for the ID, Squid eggs... wow, never saw that before. There must have been hundreds of those clumps washed up on the shore that day.
Thank you for educating me on the barometric science of fishing. It does make a difference once you pay closer attention to it. Looking forward to fishing with you again... maybe this weekend.

Take care bro,
Vincent
Yeah, Mom can stir a mean wok... lol
Sorry I missed the party, but I'll make up for it on New Year's Eve. See ya soon buddy.

Merry Christmas to you Mr. Wingnut! Hope you and your family had a wonderful day. I'm sure your Mom was proud of her boy for bringing home xmas dinner. What a perfect way to start the holiday. I'm sure Mr. 57 enjoyed being there with you. He was on my mind and with me all day long. Santa brought me waders:Wink: ......my first halibut is coming soon!
I told Santa that you've been surf fishing in your jeans and he wouldn't have none of that.
Hurry up and get that first Halibut, I already have your S.W.A.T. gear all ready to go. :Envious:
I know that 57 was right there with you this Holiday season Donna. A part of him will never leave us...

wow thanks for shearing you day with us it was a great read and had some sweet pics.
Thank you, good times! :Big Grin:

Hi Wingnut,

Very nice all around,

JapanRon
Thanks Ron... it was a perfect day. :Big Grin:

Thanks for the great report and nice that you got your mom her fish I had little doubt you wouldnt come through like Bones said your nothing but class and X is right on squid eggs.
Thank you sir, I appreciate that. Yeah, Squid eggs... I never would have guessed. I actually thought it was some kind of Jellyfish eggs.

awesome report. Nice pics!! That looked like a really cool mission. Nice job on the halibut. I would of liked to see a pic of how that halibut looked after your moms cooked it. lol

FISH ON!!!
Dang, I shoulda taken a picture of it when it first came out of the oven. It looked great, but the aroma was oh so good! :Envious:

Oh man Arthur, when I got your text I told my family that you had taken your Mom surf fishing and she got the legal halibut. Everyone was excited to hear this.
I'll have to clarify the story but I'm still excited that you were able to come through for your Mom.http://yoursmiles.org/tsmile/rulez/t2009.gifhttp://yoursmiles.org/tsmile/rulez/t2009.gif

By the way, I'd like to try your Moms crispy baked fish on some of my catfish.......Is it a family secret?

Anyway Arthur, once again, way to go My Friend!

Lol Terry, sorry I wasn't more clear. But if my Mom did join me in the surf, she would have nailed a legal Flattie for sure! :Envious:
The recipe is a popular one Terry and you HAVE to try it!
Here's the recipe on-line provided by IN2DEEP. Please let me know how it turned out.

Nice job on Moms Christmas Halibut.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qAl__sJvoU DR
So the Squid lay their eggs on the bottom? Or does it just settles there? I thought that they attach their eggs to the kelp... fascinating.

AWSOME!!!!!!!!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,WTG W,NUT on a mission accomplished,,,,,,,,,,,well done!.

Nothing like hooking mom up with something special for christmas,,,,,,,,,

God bless

TRAIL BLAZER
Thanks TB, how about a guided trip to the Duct one of these days?

Now that's the way to spend Christmas morning Arthur!!
I wanted to head out real bad the night before, but just couldn't get out of bed, with my wife next to me, in the morning...:Envious:
You are truly blessed,
Robert
<><

p.s. isn't tomorrow the 27th?!?....hehe
I actually thought that I was going to run into you out there Robert... kept looking down the shoreline expecting to see you in the distance...
Blessed...? You're the one that is blessed my friend. Loving wife, beautiful kids... someday, I hope to be so lucky. Let's see if we can hit the surf this weekend.

Congrats Arthur,

Once again Poseidon gave you and the family a nice Christmas Gift! You are truly blessed my friend.

See you on the waters soon.
It was fun hitting the harbor on foot with you yesterday Steve. Gives me a different perspective on your playground. :Big Grin: Let's see if we can plan something this weekend, conditions looks good!

Squid eggs huh !?!? I wonder how they are over easy??? Anyway that was a good Xmas ,tell me ,how does the Luna compare to the pluton? You seem to like the pluton better,it felt great in my hand ,you've battle tested it ,
Luna $229.99, Pluton $399.99. What do you get for the difference in price...? A little more line capacity and a better drag. The Pluton also feels and casts a little smoother and you can get one in high speed ratio. Both are work horses and extremely reliable. Yes, you're right, I've put them both thru some pretty severe conditions and they both passed with high marks. If you don't care about the "bling" factor, go with the Luna, it won't disappoint you. Remember, real men use round reels... :Envious:

That was a fantastic dinner bro, better than that Vietnamese restaurant that we go to. I keep telling mom to open a restaurant. She was sure that you were bringing a fish home, she didn't even prepare the usual main dish. I was teasing her that we might have to eat Top Ramen for dinner. Thanks for the presents and don't forget to come over after New Year to help take down the Christmas lights.
Mom will never open a restaurant bro. It would take all the fun out of cooking for her. She enjoys doing for us, the family. Plus, we want her to relax and be stress free, not to have another thing to worry about... lol
Christmas decorations and lights... Now why is it that it's so much fun putting them up, and such a drag taking them down...?

Hahahaha, she told me that she was going to call your Mom... I was like uh oh, Phuong's in trouble now. :Big Smile: Hit the surf with us this weekend bro... I'll give you a legal Halibut and we can call the bet all square! Deal?!? If not, don't worry, like I said before, the Prius will be waxed and ready for you to take.
As for the gifts... enjoy. You've done just as much for me and my family and it's the least that I can do. Happy New Year my friend.

Awsome job Arthur real nice halibut.I hit the surf and could'nt catch a thing...
Thanks Tony... keep at it buddy, I'm going to see you post up a legal halibut report here very soon. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions about anything.

Nice fish! Good Job Arthur on another quality fish.
And bringing it home to your Mom for Christmas is a plus
way to clutch it out and bring it home (and on the funky looking shrimp LC)
good job :Thumbs Up:

Merry Christmas to all, hope everyone had a good one.
Thanks Frank, like I said, we'll keep in touch and hit the surf sometime soon.

Another nice Christmas fish!! Very nice Arthur! I bet your mom was happy! I loved that "picture is the reciept" deal lol!
Mom was ecstatic when I walked into the kitchen with that Halibut John... priceless. :Big Grin:

Mission accomplished!
Nice story telling too
High bacteria levels in the water after the rains wasn't a concern?

You have a few of us curious about the crispy skin baked fish.
I did some web searching
How does this recipe compare to your moms?
http://ravenouscouple.blogspot.com/2010/06/ca-nuong-vietnamese-roasted-catfish.html

Scott
If you're talking about the catch, short term bacteria level exposure doesn't affect the fish.
If you're talking about human contact with the water, I'm in waders. As long as I don't get rolled by a wave and swallow some water, it's all good.
As for the recipe, you nailed it Scott. Gotta give it a try, it will knock your socks off, it's that good.
Just looking at this pic makes me hungry! :Envious: Some prefer to eat it wrapped up in rice paper. I prefer it with steamed rice... yummy!
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4050/4705531898_65e995775b_b.jpg

Nice going on the Hali . Cool that you did that for your Mom . Hope the New Year brings many more fish . Thanks for the report
Patrick, thank you... and the same to you buddy.

Thanks for everything you've done for us and especially for your unconditional friendship. Most of all, thank you for being YOU.

Btw, I dig that headstone plaque for Dana, so perfect, great job Donna! :Big Grin:
Isn't that fish dish da bomb Binh? I remember a little while back, a bunch of us made reservations at Favori Restaurant in Westminster and ordered like six of these fish along with some Escargot and had an absolute feast! Let's do it again soon! :Envious:
Sorry I couldn't come to the Christmas party my friend, but New Year will be epic. :!!!: Party all night and fish all day... LOL

Always great reading your reports... WingNut
Thank you sir... fun writing them. :Big Grin:

GREAT JOB ARTHUR,YOU GOT THAT HALIBUT FOR MOM'S X-MAS DINNER,,,,,,,I LIKE THAT LURE ,,,,,,,,,,,t/o,,,,,,,,,,
I'll give you one the next time I hop on your boat Uncle Bob. Phuong is finally gonna win a bet. No worries, gotta throw him some scraps now and then... :Envious: See ya soon my friend, it;s going to be a great New Year! :Big Grin:

I hear you WINGNUT I can never disapoint my mom with out her there would be no HOMETOWN
Right on brotha... we are who we are, because of Mom.

Arthur,

Once again, an excellent prize for an excellent guy. Your friendship and generosity throughout the year is something I am incredibly grateful for, and I always look forward to your reports and the SWAT trips I can make. I definitely hear you about the mom deal.... I get an earful of Arabic every time I come home without a legal halibut (Ya sharmout! Shou haydah? Wainil samak?!?! Kisslane!) That crispy fish looks prime, but my vote still goes for "Halibut mah toom." Glad that mom got her legal fish, and look forward to fishing with you soon.

All the best and Happy New Year!

:Guns:

Steve, it was great hanging out with you yesterday and fishing the harbor for the first time on foot. I think you could tell that I felt a little out of my element. Can't believe that I missed that fish THREE times! Thanks again for letting me borrow your drop shot rig. Too bad the weather prevented us from heading North to fish with Mikey.

Marc, I'm thankful for you & your Dad's friendship also. Hopefully, we will get more chances to fish together in the coming New Year. But I know that your first priority will be your education. Keep up the good work! Mom will be content with this halibut for awhile... I usually only bring one home for her every year... but plenty of Stripers. "Sharmouta." Too funny... :Big Smile:

Great job on that Christmas Hali wingnut! And on another great post. I'm a bit new to surf fishing so this may be a dumb question. Why do you carry a right & left handed reel? Really nice reels by the way.
Nothing wrong with K-Mart gear... I fished with the Ugly Stik for years!
As for the right and left-handed set-ups, I get this question from time to time, and yes, sometimes I do carry both. I'm ambidextrous so I can cast, retrieve and handle the rods in both hands. I can write with both hands and my golf buddies trip out that I carry a left-handed and a right-handed driver in my golf bag. When I know that I will be out in the surf for a prolonged session (6 hours or more), I usually carry both set-ups so that I can switch from one to the other when my hands/wrists gets tired or sore... an issue that comes with my age. I also always dropshot with a spinning set-up with the rod in my right hand. I feel more comfortable dropshotting this way as it gives me more control while finesse fishing. To each his own I say... whatever float your boat. Take care, Happy New Year and maybe one of these days, you and Tony can join me out in the surf somewhere.

Another nice flattie!! Way to go out there!!

Was not to offend anyone but just an ongoing joke after Arthur landed 2 large Batrays in the harbor on his carrot stix and they were beyond the upside down letter U shape a few times.

Most of my gear is lesser than K-Mart Quality except for my drop shot rig I lent Arthur for the harbor trip. That one is from Target and Arthur is always asking me if it has a broken tip. Indeed it does but works fine for me! :Secret:

The S.W.A.T. Crew and company hit a couple of spots in the South Bay in force today. Acting on some solid intel that there have been recent sightings of Flatties going airborne in the area.

It was a beautiful day with near perfect conditions. Unfortunately, we did not find the legal Flatties. Tough day of fishing, but as usual, the fishing is secondary whenever the S.W.A.T. brotherhood gets together. Always a good time!

Bones (Mike) - You are a trooper Lieutenant, dragging yourself out of bed after a night of vomitting to get to the battlefield to join the brotherhood. Hope you feel better my friend.

Flyngby (Steve) - I never seen anybody make getting rolled in the surf looked so graceful... except for myself of course. Sorry about the broken rod. Thank you again for the "unique" gift, you are one class act my friend. :Big Grin:

JerryG (Jerry) - Thank you for taking point and guiding us on our mission today. The enemy managed to elude us, but rest assured, they will not enjoy the peace for any extended period of time.

Fish_Sauce (Andrew) - Thanks for making the long drive to join us buddy. You caught "one" more fish than I did today. LOL Thanks again for the thoughtful gift. It already have a place in my home office.

Murrieta Angler (Robert) - Fishing with you is always a blast bro. Hearing you sing in the surf helps me wake up in the morning... no coffee needed! Stop farming those fish will ya! The bite today was HARD to come by. Thanks again for treating all of us to lunch, you sly dog you, beat me at my own game! :Envious:

Klocked (John) - The gentle giant of the S.W.A.T. brotherhood! Always a pleasure sharing the sand with you buddy. We'll get them next time!

iLLest (Frank) - I beat you to the drop zone dude! You let the S.W.A.T. Prius outrun that little hot rod of yours... Nice going on the only Flattie of the day. It's not a 30", but at least it was a skunk buster. :Envious:

ToadsToadsOnly (Jonathan) - Great fishing with you again my friend. I enjoy picking your brain full of fishing knowledge. I learned a lot just from listening to all your past fishing experiences. Thanks for accepting my invitation into the S.W.A.T. brotherhood.

Bam Bam (Bill) - Always happy to have another distinguish member of the "Pirate Crew" coming out to join us for a surf mission. Looking forward to fishing with you again soon buddy.

SWAT,

Sorry I missed the outing with the guys. Wasn't feeling too good last night, slept in really late, felt a lot better surprisingly, and got out for about 1.5hrs today for my only fishing of the weekend. Don't think I'm really up to anymore since I'm not feeling that great now. Dad and I both got two total, but lost the tapeshots in the upload. Dad's was actually a bit bigger than mine, but he didn't really show it off to the camera too well. I know what they went, and dad and I were happy to get them . Felt good to be on the sand again in 2011, and it was a nice time out after not fishing for a while.

Arthur, as always I appreciate the invite, and know we'll hit the sand again together sometime. Got the new addy for Wingnut HQ, and expect something shortly.

Sorry to hear about the lost rod Steve, it always hurts to loose a favorite, but hopefully the replacement will do just as good a job.

Mike, feel better soon man, and major props on making it out there early in spite of it, and also for the call a few days back. It's all settled down now, and hopefully I can start fishing some more.

Jerry, appreciate the intel man, and I'm going to make use of some of those tactcis you mentioned for hopefully a 30in+ this year.

To all the other SWAT guys, look forward to hitting the sand with you sometime soon!

Team-

We could not have asked for better weather and conditions looked great (calm, clear water/ lots bait fish at first spot). We all ended up with just one each yesterday. The count was as follows: One juvenile halibut (questioned and released), one juvenile leopard (released), and the rest of us caught skunks. SWAT Members are sworn to kill skunks at all costs but they some how managed to get the best of us yesterday. … LOL

Thanks guys (Arthur, Mike, Jonathon, Frank, Steve, John, Andrew, Robert, and Bill). It was good just to get out yesterday good weather, good friends, and good times. Looking forward to the next mission. We have a score to settle with the enemy.. I also want to say thanks again to Murrieta Angler for breakfast and lunch.

Marc- Glad to see that you guys made it out for a short session. It looks like you put that info to some good use. Well done my friends. Hope your feeling better. Let me know when your ready to fish some LMB.

Fellas,

What can I say? the fish just simply did not want to cooperate yesterday. We had the S.W.A.T. squad at full force :Guns:, throwing everything we can possibly think of, to only catch two fish! The fish indeed got the best of us, but now we have a score to settle big time. Redemption will be on my mind in the future.

I did manage 1 shortie, but ehhh, I'll take a full morning of hanging out with great guys anyday. Met a couple new people, great guys indeed.

Steve:  man, I didn't get to see the first time you fell and stood underwater for about 10 seconds but the second time was pretty awesome. I'm about 15 feet away from you and I see it coming...I see you trying to time it.....you jump ....AND....it takes you for a 3 second ride backwards and you still stumble! but you know what, much props for not falling man. :Thumbs Up:

Robert: Dude, you definitely woke me up in the morning. Had me cracking up the whole time. I didnt even know you were a successful raper from the LBC

Arthur: Once again, a great time as always. Thanks for the S.W.A.T. gear brotha. I'll beat you to the spot nextime, I figured the commander had to be there first, so I cut ya some slack.

Jerry: Nice meeting ya bro and thanks for letting me follow you to our second spot, I had no idea where we were going lol Took me forever to get back, I "thought" I knew how to get back :Rolls Eyes: but I was wrong...

Mike: you my friend, are a trooper. Sick...throwing up...no sleep...and you still showed up! S.W.A.T. dedication!

To the rest of the team, it was a blast as always. Nice meeting some new people and seeing some familiar faces. Lets do it again soon! it was awesome seeing the whole beach covered with S.W.A.T. members.

Thanks for the invite Arthur, the donuts and lunch were my pleasure.

Johnathan, we most definately need to get down to Mex for some WSB in August. Just let me know the time and place!

Frank, nice job getting the only halibut of the day. Next time we "ALL" get one.

Mike, sorry that you weren't feeling good, I would have stayed home in my chonies watching football and eating all day!

Steve, I didn't even know that you ate it....I'm just glad that you didn't get hurt! When I woke this morning my wrist was killing me from my little stumble on those rocks.
Also, that is a very cool crucifix you have now!!

Jerry, thanks for the invite to your stomping grounds. It brought back memories from working at Broadway Glass & Mirror.

Andrew, the only other person to lose that skunk. It's fun catching those little leo's on lite line.

Bill, we didn't get to talk, but there will be other adventures.

Take Care Everyone & God Bless You All,

BTW, thanks for giving up the Boneheads intel at KH, I'm sure many FNN'ers owes you a debt of gratitude for such generosity. Keep up the good work.

Hey Guys!!!

Take Care Everyone & God Bless You All,
Robert
<><

p.s. John, How could I forget the little guy..hehe
Good fishing with you again Bro, next time we will tear em up...
Robert, keep you car key in your pocket! :Big Smile:
Again, very cool of you to bring doughnuts and treating us all to lunch. Now, don't let it happen again! LOL :Envious:
Good luck on the recon trip tomorrow! :Secret:

Man you guys hit the surf in full force! I went out Sunday to the same spot I met up with some of you the other weekend. It was pretty slow, but the weather and surf were both great and I manage to beat the skunk with a 16" hali.
At least you got a Flat one Gavin, they're tough to come by lately. At least the legal ones anyway, just a bunch of shorts. Hope to hit the sand with you soon.

Goodness, the flatties are lucky they weren't in the area or they would have been obliterated. Look at that show of overwhelming firepower.
Slow fishing, but I call it a training excercise to keep SWAT sharp and at the top of the game. BSP and dad, nice legals!
No kidding Phuong, we carpet bombed that entire place.
BTW, I want my car back by the 31st! :Envious: I checked with Telenav, 1400 miles in less than a month?!? I don't even put that many miles on that car in 6 months.
Bob (T/O) wants us to join him on a Striper kill mission sometime soon.

Wow...What a turnout for the day!
15 sticks on the beach.....I think we scared the flatties out of the area!

The SWAT fellowship is growing and to think......Not ALL soldiers were present!
It was a rough start for me after staying up all night and tossing my cookies but I couldn't be MIA for the operation. Too bad my body gave up before phase two with you guys. Still suffering from the flu but starting to get back on top of things a bit.
It still was good to see all of the Boyz out in full force and I want to thank Steve "Flyngby" for the framed pic of my PB halibut. Very cool buddy! Also ....sorry about your rod dude.....
I still would have laughed at you getting rolled

Good Job on the legals Marc and Nick! Kinda had a feeling it was going to go off later in the day since that's what the original recon intel told us.

Lt. Bones.......Debriefing Complete-------<><
Glad you're feeling better now Mike. It was fun perching it up with you on Saturday to break the Skunk. :Big Grin: Got my biggest Perch of the year so far! :Dancing Banana:
I gotta beat City Dad for the biggest Perch of the year honor... there's a steak & lobster dinner is riding on it! :Envious:

It was great being out on the water with you guys and nice to finally meet the the SWAT Team. Even though it was on the slower side i had a great time out on the water with you guys. Hey... Skunk or not we wer out on the water FISHING on a beautiful day with great company. Cant complain about that.

Arther that whole time I thought i was picking your brain asking about your outings. Also thanks for the invite to SWAT and thanks for the sick swat gear I appreciate it. That cashier at the sizzlers was hilarious "Are you guys like copse or somthing?" Uh? Sure, "Wow so you guys jump out of airplains and stuff?" um yea, "WoW! how cool!"

Andrew nice seeing you on the water again and we should go hit up the Newport bay soon. Drop me a pm with your #

Steve even though you got rolled on the surf you are right you were still dryer than I. Sorry about the broken rod bro and look on the bright side at least its a shimano rod they are awesome about their warrenty.

Robert, I cannot wait till august I have not been out to that spot in Mexico for the seabass in a couple years we will definitely put together a trip down there this year and maybe we might even get a few other swat members to come along.

I had an awesome time on the water with all you guys we will get them next time the halibut spawn is just right around the corner we will put the wood to them next time.
Jonathan, good sharing the sand with you my friend. We need to do another kayak mission, I miss it!
With your long and extensive experience in both fresh & salt, you will undoubtedly be a great asset to S.W.A.T. :Big Grin: Glad to have you on board!
