they stock every other thursday, and it so happens that they are supposed to stock tomorrow. Usually around 9:30am.

Why would DFG feed DVL stripers with subcatchable trout? Isn't that why they quit stocking Skinner?

IMO just one more big waste of of CA DFG limited resources. Why would DFG put in a little or any trout to feed the strippers in this lake or any lake across the state. Put the trout where they can live and not be harassed by the strippers and be caught threw out the year and in to the next. should be spending the money on stocking some blue and channel catfish IMO

About a month back found a whole school of something kind of unique. They were there for a few weeks with numbers dwindling, now they are MIA. Some bigger fish were waiting for them and the Ospreys were dive bombing them pretty hard.

Spoke to someone at the front and they said they had not stocked Browns in over a year and the last time they did they were fingerlings. So hopefully these guys make it. Would be pretty epic pulling in DD browns.

DFG isnt intentionally stocking smaller fish to feed the stripers. from what i've always understood and been told, the stocks are to help generate a population of fish in the lake. by changing locations, fish are able to spread out and hide. yes stripers will eat them; so will bass, catfish and even trout if reaching a certain size. a small portion WILL make it. department of fish and game knows that the success rate isnt gonna be 100%.

earlier this year we caught a 3# brown out of DVL on a senko over 60' of water. just goes to show you that these fish do survive

Isn't stocking a reason for why we pay for Fishing License? What's the use for having a license to kill if there nothing to kill

Subcatchables are planted to REDUCE the cost of planting fish more fish in waters where the potential for long term, grow out, survival exists. It cost money to feed the fish for extended periods as they grow up in a hatchery, as each individual fish grows it requires more food per day to maintain itself and/or put on weight, thus costing more $$ to keep them in a hatchery. The opinion that the predatory fish species and birds etc. within a body of water eat them all and a waste of $$ is erroneous. Those same species predate/harrass larger, catchable ones also.
Stocking @ Lake Skinner was suspended due to the EIR and potential genetic interactions with southern DPS steelhead that reside downstream in the watershed.

The lake is higher than it was but not like three years ago.
