Got in contact w/JP Jim Friday night and met up with him and his crew on the Tradition on Saturday morning. Bought the ticket at 5:45am and we all waited in line to board the boat.

Unfortunately some DOOSH bag had threw a beer can down the toilet so the crew worked hard trying to unclog the pipes. This set us back about 30 minutes but they got it fixed and we boarded at 6:40.

Steve in the wheel house - Shawn in the galley and my good friend Morgon on deck. Taurus was on board today fishing with us.

Morgon had all the bait nicely fixed up for us. Fresh Frozen squid for today's voyage.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02166.jpg

We headed out in look for some stones in DEEP water and tried a few drifts at about 300 something feet. The weather was FREEEEEZING in the morning (good thing I wore a hoodie AND my foul weather jacket today) and the current under was RIPPING - had to use 10oz minimum for the morning drifts.

We were in search of some nice big reds or even chili peppers but unfortunately they didn't come out to play. Instead we caught a lot of smaller grade half band rock fish. Nibble nibble nibble....

Five drops. Five little half bands.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02171.jpg

Then we made a quick move and some regular sized assorted started coming over.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02179.jpg

The morning was a little on the slow side, we were just picking away at smaller rockfish while trying to keep warm from the COLD breezes.

Check out my hair all matted down from wearing a hoodie over my visor. You see this rockfish? It may look big in the picture but...
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02172-1.jpg

When i put the fish up against my massive bicep - it was dwarfed. It's the same fish... i swear it is.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02201.jpg

Then as the morning progressed - the sun FINALLY started to poke through the overcast. Check out the elbow room on the boat - it was more like a 7 man charter.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02176-1.jpg

After it started warming up, i went into the galley for some lunch. I asked Shawn to make me a CBurger and a beer.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02174.jpg
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02181.jpg

MMmMmmm - this is right on so many levels...
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02183.jpg

Okay after i scarfed this down, i took off the jacket and decided it's time to start fishing. I found Jimmy fishing the port side and i took a spot right next to him. I dropped my single dropper loop and we were talking and shootin' the s**t when my torpedo weight hit bottom. Not a second later i felt a violent JOLT that startled me. I audibly said,

"whoa what the hell was that?!?" and i reeled 7 cranks and put the tip up... nothing there.

I looked 3 feet to my right to see Jimmy smile and re drop... so I re-dropped and it was a race to see who could hit bottom again to catch whatever it was that clobbered my bait. 5 seconds later Jimmy hooks up.... UGH!!!!
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02184.jpg

I see a bend in his rod and tension on his line and a minute later out comes what would be the biggest fish of the day...
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02199-1.jpg

nice catch man - 2 minutes later i get a jolt again but not anywhere near the first slam i got... a minute of winding yeilded me the little sister to the big chuckle head.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02186-1.jpg

Same spot a couple of minutes later Jimmy gets hit again but this time with a leadhead and plastic w/a strip of skwid attached. Pulled up a fat sculpin.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02187-1.jpg

Then we made a 10 minute move going towards back inside and fished a slightly shallower spot and we fished the anchor where everyone around the boat was bringing over all kinds of Rock fish.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02192.jpg

By this time the Sun was blazing down and the water flattened out. We saw the New Del Mar out with us.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Tradition/DSC02193.jpg

When we moved a little shallower, i switched over from 40# to 25# and a 6oz dropper with a size 1 hook. I hooked up on a fish and was bringing it up but since i was using a smaller hook, it popped off just as it breached the surface. Jimmy and 2 others raced for gaffs and played fish hockey to see who could gaff it first.

A regular on the boat (forgot his name) an older gentleman pulled up a sheephead at this spot.

The day went on and i made friends with a couple guys on the boat who are real cool. Nice to meet you Ray and John congrats on your daughter man.

As the day started to come to an end, we tried fishing a drift or two with not much luck and then we moved in real close with a picky bite.

When it was all over, the older gentleman took the JP with his goat just barely beating out John's chuckle.

I know crew tried their hardest to put us on the fish but the fish just didn't wanna break wide open today. Either way, it was a fun trip and i'm glad i got to meet Jimmy and his crew. HIGHLY suggest jumping on the Tradition if you get a chance. Structure sand bass season is right around the corner and you bet i'll be back with a report on that.

BIG thanks to the Tradition crew for their hard work and Morgon it was great seeing you again buddy. Good Times JP JIM - see ya again soon bro.

Nice meeting you Kevin and thanks for coming out fishing with us! Fishing was on the slow side but it got better near the end of the day and so did the weather. Pretty fun catching rockfish that fight well on light tackle.

The bosco and sheephead were both just under two pounds. Most of the cod we got were "steamer size".

Yo Rob,
- Yeah there's no doubt in my mind that kid jimmy can sure fish. I could sure learn a thing or two from him.
- U just turned 45 and ure still putting up 285?!?! get outta here.
- I hear you on the work situation brother that's for sure. Most of my buddies that fish are hard working, blue collar guys that can't fish as much as they'd like to due to jobs being available. Let's all pray for a prosperous year ahead.

Kevin and Joe,

If you guys have issues with each other, please address them through PM's and off the board.

My "issue" isn't with Kevin. I've been done with him 8-months ago when I never got a "how are you" text or call. I feel sorry for his beautiful innocent children that their dad is a jacka-s.

As a long time member of FNN, I thought you should know that one of its members is suffering. I thought you should also know that some of your members swept me under the rug when they found out I was sick.
I was doing you and fellow FNN members a favor.

Oh and by the way Arthur, thank you for the well wishes.
You'll probably be tempted to or will terminate my account.
So I'll get my last words in now.

Thank you all for all the years of fish porn and fish tales.
I'm glad that you enjoyed reading my reports when I was actively posting them.
It was always nice to see fellow FNNers on trips, people recognizing "Funjunkie" and the NBU.
I couldn't do much fishing in 2010 and 2011 isn't looking much bright yet.
But if I'm really lucky, I look forward to seeing on your next trip.

Tight lines and cast one out for me.

Joe, I sympathize with your situation and I can't even imagine the hardship that you've been going through. It's understandable why you are lashing out. But I don't think it serves a purpose or believe that it makes you feel better to chastise people who you say swept you under the rug. Don't waste your time on them because they're not important. Focus your energy on those who have stuck with you and stood by your side throughout your ordeal. Your family and true friends, they deserve the remainder of your attention and nobody else. We are all guilty of hoping that situations like yours happen to somebody else, to some other family, but sometimes they do hit home. I was reminded of how fragile life can be with the passing of 57.

You will be in my prayers tonight and thank you for the years of entertaining reports. I will remember them, and you...

When the time come, that you go to sleep with Angels... You shall live in the hearts of those who loved you and will thus never really die or be forgotten.

Arthur
