Decided to do an afternoon run down to San Onofre. Conditions were perfect!
64 Degrees, 1’-2’ swells, 1’-2’ surf, 1’-2’ waves and a low tide of 0.02’ at 12:12.
I arrived around 11:30 and got set-up for the next 4-5 hours of relaxation.
This is what I arrived to;

And this,
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001151.jpg
WOW! I couldn’t believe how nice it was there. I was throwing a Lucky Craft in Anchovie and I decided to put some green spots down the sides with a Sharpie. You can see it in a couple of pictures.
After 45 minutes of casting and retrieving I finally get a nice hit and I reel this decent Yellow Fin Croaker;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001242.jpg
Three casts later I get another;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001241.jpg
Today was turning into a nice day. If you look in the previous two pictures I’m surrounded by water, I’m about 50’-75’ out from the shore and water was only waist high.
After a few more casts I felt the thump I was waiting for. It pulled for just a few seconds but I knew it was a legal;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001247.jpg
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001248.jpg
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001248a.jpg
It measured just shy of 23”. When I took the shot it bent itself, that’s why it shows only 22”.
Things were just great, now that I got the monkey off my back. I stayed in one general area and it payed off big. I managed to get the one Halibut and 13 YFC’s;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001256a.jpg
Hooked this one in the head;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001256.jpg
Then I got my personal best YFC at just over 16”;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001306.jpg
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001306a.jpg
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001306b.jpg
I decided to move from that spot and give it a try up the beach. It was now about 3:30 and I had only caught a small Perch. I decided to turn and head back and as I did, I noticed that the waves were still non-existent;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001547.jpg
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001548.jpg
I was just about back to my trail when I told myself I would make five more casts and then call it a day. On my fifth cast I landed one more YFC;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1201001641.jpg

Well, that would be it for the day and as I was hiking back up the trail, I took two more pictures of Catalina;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/1201001649.jpg
And the hardly seen, San Clemente Island;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/1201001649a.jpg
My counts for the day;
1 legal Halibut (22 7/8”)
14 Yellow Fin Croaker (1 PB)
2 Barred Surf Perch

If you can get out tomorrow in the afternoon, GET OUT THERE! It’s going to be the same conditions.
God Bless Everyone,
Robert

Robert,

Seems like you are on a little roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :Flamethrower: :Envious:

That is a great fish count and variety for a trip!

Somehow I sense some dissatisfaction in your trip, as you were going up the trail and had to return for one last shot! Been there and done that myself!

Look forward to your next adventure and report!

Hey Brandon,
I didn't even mention all the ones I lost. At least 6 or 7.
The water right now in NPH is the coldest along California's coast, according to Wavecast.
Did you go fishing with Jeff?
