Decided to do an afternoon run down to San Onofre. Conditions were perfect!
64 Degrees, 1’-2’ swells, 1’-2’ surf, 1’-2’ waves and a low tide of 0.02’ at 12:12.
I arrived around 11:30 and got set-up for the next 4-5 hours of relaxation.
This is what I arrived to;

And this,

WOW! I couldn’t believe how nice it was there. I was throwing a Lucky Craft in Anchovie and I decided to put some green spots down the sides with a Sharpie. You can see it in a couple of pictures.
After 45 minutes of casting and retrieving I finally get a nice hit and I reel this decent Yellow Fin Croaker;

Three casts later I get another;

Today was turning into a nice day. If you look in the previous two pictures I’m surrounded by water, I’m about 50’-75’ out from the shore and water was only waist high.
After a few more casts I felt the thump I was waiting for. It pulled for just a few seconds but I knew it was a legal;

It measured just shy of 23”. When I took the shot it bent itself, that’s why it shows only 22”.
Things were just great, now that I got the monkey off my back. I stayed in one general area and it payed off big. I managed to get the one Halibut and 13 YFC’s;

Hooked this one in the head;

Then I got my personal best YFC at just over 16”;

I decided to move from that spot and give it a try up the beach. It was now about 3:30 and I had only caught a small Perch. I decided to turn and head back and as I did, I noticed that the waves were still non-existent;

I was just about back to my trail when I told myself I would make five more casts and then call it a day. On my fifth cast I landed one more YFC;

Well, that would be it for the day and as I was hiking back up the trail, I took two more pictures of Catalina;

And the hardly seen, San Clemente Island;

My counts for the day;
1 legal Halibut (22 7/8”)
14 Yellow Fin Croaker (1 PB)
2 Barred Surf Perch
If you can get out tomorrow in the afternoon, GET OUT THERE! It’s going to be the same conditions.
God Bless Everyone,
Robert
