I went out with a couple of buddies. It was my first time fishing with them. We were mainly trying to figure out the LMB bite. We hit a couple of spots and tried catching busting fish. We ended up with 4-5 LMB. Largest was about 4.5lb. The bite was tough.

Then the striper showed up. We didn't fish them for long, but ended up with two nice ones. Not sure of the weight, but the big one went about 40 inches.

40 inches! That's a toad! Great job and congrats!
What were you casting? Was it on an open water surface boil or just while working structure for LMB?

Congrats on what sounds like a great day on the water and some nice catches.

Not to take away from your sucess, but where is the pic of the 40"? Maybe that was a mistype and you meant to say 30" The larger one in the pic is just barely as long as the sink and those average @ 30". Also a 40" fish acording to a length to weight chart would be a low of 22 lbs average 26lbs and max 29.5 lbs. There is no way either of the fish in that pic is that big. We're fisherman, we tend to stretch the truth every now and then, but at least make it believable.

A 30" striper would be somewhere between 10.3 and 14lbs with 12.3 beign the average. Congrats again on catching a DD.

Very nice. Still some boilers with the colder weather? Great to hear they are still swarming the shad.

I agree, nice way of putting "it". But why even bother pointing out a potential size/ weight differance? I read the post, view the pictures and thank the intial author for sharing them with me. I see no gain in the comments thats all.

Sorry for even adding my reply but I have seen too many authors and viewers get bashed on this site and I still keep coming back for more...lol

Good luck to all the fishermen and Happy Holidays.

The large striper came while searching for LMB. We were throwing small swimbaits on the boils.

@ Marine Michael - In the Pic the fish is bent with his head at the bottom of the sink. He stretch passed the sink when straightened out. I usually weigh fish and don't measure, so my measurement could have been off a couple of inches. That is why I said 'about'.. my bad. Let's just call it 12-18lb :) Either way it was a nice striper.

I caught the smaller fish... My buddy caught the larger one. I am holding the small one in the bottom picture.

The 40" claim reminds me of the two drunkards that had the huge crappie this spring. The shorter guy said his 18" fish weighed 4lb 5oz. I saw the one drunkard fishing under the attenuator for blue-gill a couple of weeks ago. He had maybe 10 nice size (maybe over 1lb?) and he claimed 4 of them were close to 2.5lbs.
