Got home yesterday at 730p took acouple of tylenol pm and couple brews and went to bed. up at 130am get the stuff ready for the dvl smackdown and cousin jason meets me in the driveway and says we are going to do salt today! dvl is too damn hot!

got to DP and launched the boat around 330am, get bait and made some nice mini-macks annd head towards the 181 & 182. get around the area just after gray light and spot two paddies right off the bat. they where high and dry. scope out the area for more paddies , birds, anything for acouple of hours and we see nothing. decide to head towards the domes for the cuda bite. about 20 miles out the water is like glass and we see acouple of fins sticken out of the water  marlin! i hook on a mac and jason drives the boat around it about 50 yards off to swing the mac by it. damn thing disapears! :( but then my rod starts screaming. wtf i got it! :D grab the rod give a couple of yanks and here come that big basterd flying out of the water  tried to chase it down to gain line it did its last tail dance on top of the water and adios ! bye bye mr. marlin.

aways after i changed my shorts we head to the domes were it was wfo on snot logs the rest of the day! 8)

Hi FISHNMOFO,

Great report and narration ...... cool even getting close to such a big fish. I would feel the same thing 'my rod starts screaming' if one came near me!  Just a friendly tease!

As always .... enjoy your reports,

JapanRon

Did you put the boat in reverse while chasing the thing down?

I caught a 85lb. Striped Marlin on a stand-up setup with 50lb. braid backing with a 30lb. topshot, lol. Thing took me for a 30 minute ride before I could even start to reel in.

Hey Andy, another great trip. I hear you on Diamond Valley; no way I will go there right now, I like that cool breeze and salt in the summer.

I must have been following you all day Saturday. I worked the same areas in the morning and found nothing on the paddies except lots of bait and a big Mola Mola(Sunfish). Great story & hookup!

Late in the day, there has been a wide open Calico & Sand Bass bite in the same area as you caught the Cuda. From about 3-6pm, I caught 20-30 Bass in that area both Saturday and last Saturday. A chum bucket for dinner worked wonders for the afternoon/evening bite!
