View Full Version : S.W.A.T. A Day of Infamy for the New Recruit...11/25

Wednesday evening I received an encoded message asking if I was down for an assault on the shores of Doheny State Beach and possibly San Onofre State Beach.
I had responded back and then proceeded to gather my gear that evening for what would be my first mission with, S.W.A.T.!
The troops would be gathering at gray light and we would be instructed as to the days events.
I was the first to arrive, with fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies w/walnuts, and to my dismay there was a line all the way out to Golden Lantern?! I proceeded to contact Commander Wingnut and inform him of the situation, without hesitation he made the command decision to make an assault further South, down in San Diego County, and we would be attacking just after sunrise!
Upon arrival at San Onofre I decided to do a quick reconnaissance, before the other troops arrived, and the conditions were looking pretty good. Intel from the night before put the water temperature at around 61 degrees, swells would be 1-3 feet every 10-15 seconds, waves were at 1.2-1.5 feet, the surf was a modest waist to chest high, the outside temp was to be 64 degrees with sunny skies and the high tide would be 5.75 at 10:52 a.m.
After getting back to my vehicle I received a call from Commander Wingnut saying that he and Captain Bones were going to do a quick recon down at Las Pulges exit (they missed the offramp)…hehe
Commander Wingnut said not to wait and start the attack!!!!!
After leaving some rations (cookies) on the bumper of my vehicle for the other troops, I headed down the trail, not knowing what the day would bring…..
Not long after I was down in the trenches, with no success, I looked North and saw the Commander and the Captain. They were quickly knee deep in battle. I trudged towards them to give them an intel report, I saluted and they asked for a brief synopsis. I gave them the intel and the decision was made to head North and attack the enemy there.
It wasn’t 15 minutes, when Commander Wingnut was reeling in the first causalty!?
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1125000724.jpg
The enemy battled hard, but the Commander harder, when the enemy was in sight it was then known that it was a Leopard. Commander Wingnut had hooked him right through the dorsal fin, the enemy bobbed and weaved through the waves and alas, HE WAS FREE!!!
There would be many that would be lost that day, but it was just the beginning!
As I looked up the beach I saw Captain Bones with a little grin on his face and a bent rod,
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1125000749a.jpg
It would be the first prisoner caught and interrogated . A juvenile Barred Surf Perch. The Captain felt sorry for the kid and released him for another day of battle!
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/093-3.jpg

It would be another 60 minutes or so before the next prisoner was captured. As Commander Wingnut and myself were talking and tossing grenades, (Lucky Crafts) I decided to throw one into an enemy trench, to see if it would produce, I felt an explosion that rocked my bones;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/082-2.jpg

He battled hard, going out, going left, going right….but not going anywhere soon!
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/083-2.jpg

The battle seemed to last a lifetime, but alas, it would be no more than 45 seconds until we got first sight;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/084-2.jpg

After landing the enemy he was measured;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/086-2.jpg
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/087-1.jpg
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/088-2.jpg

He would be my Personal Best capture from the surf. My comrades proceeded to get more pictures of the captured;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/089-2.jpg
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/090-2.jpg
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/091-3.jpg
…until it was time to release him for another day of battle.
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/092-3.jpg
My portion of the mission turned out to be a complete success!!
It wouldn’t be the last Hali caught for the day, as Commander Wingnut was now in Black Ops Mode, and he was ready for the next prisoner.
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/094-3.jpg
It was all fun and games, with the enemy playing with our lines, until the next prisoner would be ashore and interrogated;
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/downsized_1125001040a.jpg
21 inches of pure fun and adrenaline. The next casualty would be a little higher up the Chain of Command.
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/102-3.jpg
21 and 7/8”…Oh, how the upper echelon were just laughing in our faces….But alas, we had the last laughs as our mission was a success. You see, we now have the intel that we need to make another assault in the near future and the next time, THERE WILL BE BLOOD!!!

Good Times were had today and the memories will last a lifetime. I give Thanks, on this day of Giving. For the Lord gave me new friends, a healthy family and the opportunity to enjoy it with them.
I hope everyone enjoys the next few weeks and remembers to be kind to others!!

Robert, what can I say... but very well done my friend! You stole my thunder. :Envious:

A "Personal Best" Halibut on your very first mission with S.W.A.T. Simply amazing! :Big Grin:

That 27" Flattie was a beautiful fish. What's more impressive is that you caught it off the boiler that I made at least a dozen casts to right before you nailed it. :LOL: It was great to watch you in action... poetry in motion. :Cool:
Initiation now complete... looking forward to sharing the sand with you on many more missions.
Welcome to S.W.A.T. Where you belong...

Superb Debut Private Murietta!!!! :Thumbs Up:

Congrats on a very nice PB Surf Flattie! Those 45 seconds of "Glory" will last a lifetime! I see the Arthur did a great job of capturing the moment as usual. Next step is to join the 30 Club! :Big Smile:

It is not often that "Commander Wingnut" misses the intended target throwing 12 Grenades! Sometimes a steady aim will be more successful than the "Rapid Fire Method"! :Guns:

I see the Commander was successful at taking down and interrogating another enemy Recon Drone! They never learn! :Idiot:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/007-2.jpg

If it looks like a Rolex, ticks like a Rolex, then it must be a Rolex. I really hadn't noticed, I was busy looking at the Pluton.
Yeah, the waves were crashing pretty hard at the shore and the trenches were only 10-15 feet out. Really didn't need waders but it helped with the cool weather.
