I've been to the Lagoon a twice during the summer and got skunked both times fishing off the bank. I got a small boat now that I want to take out soon and try for some bass. How's the fishing here in the late fall/summer? What techniques and areas in the lagoon do you recommend?

Here's ya a map of some key spots you should be fishing. This time of year get yourself some crawdads and spend a couple hours on each spot identified here. These spots hold big fish and eventually your patience will pay off.

The line going from the swimbeach on up into the creek channel is for reference on how the edge drops off from the flats. This edge is a bass' access to deep water. Big bass love access to deep water where they move vertically instead of having to swim long distances for food or safety.

With no trout in the lake, the fish will be roaming up and down this edge looking for food. It's not too important to fish any one spot on this edge. Alot of people found out last year about the spots circled, these are general areas which have small depressions or cuts which allow the fish to ambush prey from. There used to be a pencil buoy out there but they took it down. You can get the same reference by using the ski course now. You have the option of staying outside in deeper water and fishing up on top, or staying on top and fishin the deeper water. It just depends on where the fish want to be from day to day.

On the other side circled is the area known as the HUMP. This is a spot which rises vertically from about 25 ft into 15-17 ft. There are alot of park benchs, trash cans and trees sunk on this spot. North of this is an edge which rises out of the creek channel into 10-12 ft. This edge has at least 20 trash cans that have been sunk. this area is circled also and is just south of the tulies, spend some time here and you will learn the subtle ways in which this area holds fish.

The rocks down in front hold fish also. You can catch fish anywhere along them. This is a great crawdad spot and you can get in 12-14ft and fish into 25 and 5 at the same time.

Hope this helps
By fishing crawdads, you have the option of fishing two poles, one in each column of water until you establish a pattern.

Great info there jimbob......Boy Oh Boy......Butch is bummed about the lack of trout plants and now I bet he will love you dude!

Hey surfer....If you catch any big girls look at their anal fins. If you see any healed irregularities or a flat out hole.....That's Butch browns tag. He uses a hole puncher to mark the Double D's he has previously caught.
Good luck and please put them back.....not on a wall!
