Looking at water in LB yesterday and today at lunch and it is clearing up from the LA River rain water we had the other day. Yesterday was a nice Mocha Latte color all the way to Seal Beach.

So I had a thought that with 3 days of dirty water the Halibut and other fish in the Port of LB must be
getting hungy with the tough hunting of bait fish due to lack of visibility ?

Does this theory hold water ? http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o309/limabeanlover/water_bucket.jpg

That area gets a double dose of cold dirty fresh water every time it rains from the San Gabriel River out fall on the south end and the LA river out fall on the north end. That beach turns in to debris field after it rains from all the trash that gets flushed out by the river out falls. As you have mentioned the water turns a frothy brown color. I may be wrong but my guess is the bait and predators move out of the area during/ following a storm to get out of that dirty with lower salinity levels than they are use to. There might be a few boneless browns swimming around out there...

The fish usually move in and out of the area. There is alot of bait off shore at this time of the year and certainly they can find it. Another thing to consider is all the pollution that runs off with the rain.
That is not good for the fish in that area and typically can cause humans to get sick. Halibut typically run for deeper waters when the swell is up.

Hope that helps some. But yes they will move back in once the trend stabilized and the water clears up. They are where the bait is most times.
