Downriggin' for NUTHIN' !!! SKUNK!!!

Hello "Jewel" anglers! I have fished DVL over 20-times since it has reopened and have NEVER been skunked. Usually, I go after the LM bite, BUT recently got the striper bug.

I put away the worms, stored the cranks and spinners, hid the jigging spoons, packaged-away the Smack-n-Shads and Spooks and looked @ deep down jailbirds...

I have been doing my research over the last two months and settled on installing (2) Cannon Easi Troll downriggers on my BassTracker Pro Team 175X. Not wanting to get TOO crazy, I worked-up some 1/4" aluminum brackets for the rigs...

Thanks to T.O. and other striper anglers for all the lure/downrigger/etc. help over the last month.

I have MORE lures ... MORE umbrella rigs ... and a FIRE in the pit of my chest for those FAT striped bassturds @ DVL!!!

Dood thats a cool setup you got. I fished DVL on Veterans day and we caught several striper chasing boils. Had a blast. A TON of bait in the water.

Yea I would be ok about getting skunked if I was cruisin around in that ride! Better luck next time.

you have no skill, no skill what so ever....hehehehe. I went out Saturday and hammered them. I got one 4-inch bass (and that is rounding up) before I called it a day with my tail between my legs. I guess Im the one with no skills.

@Husker: I know, dude. I felt like crap after my skunk. I'm SO used to slaying the largies .... The skunk makes me wanna' go back and try try again! I WILL hit the striper motherload soon!

skunks happen...it's always actually a good thing to get one "out of the way" plus...understand that your "downrigging" was a new thing to you as it seems.....in time you'll develop better skills not only at downrigging but develop the ability to determine when and where to run the downriggers...every day isn't a "downrigging" day.


Keep on 'em, I know I'll see another report with success soon.

I was kinda clueless on the Urig before my trip with TO last year. On my first trip out ,after the guided trip, it felt so good when the rod went bendo for the first time. Getting dialed in is half the fun of it. When that rigger goes off for the first time, it's gonna be worth a skunk or two. He showed me one of his weapons last month when I saw him up there, and It's something I would have never thought of using. Plus everyone is so tight lipped up there..
