Went to corona Lake with Castaway and meet up with 2 Quick , his Son Noah, & Fishing buddy Fred . The wind was a factor today as the Santa Anas were a blowin off and on through out the day . It was a nice day to be fishing with good friends. It also was cool that Omar brought his Son Noah fishing . He is going to be a great fisherman one day .
So, I was quick in getting my lines in the water and was rewarded with two trout in the basket right away . I was using 14" to 16 " leaders and those first two trout went for the og garlic power bait . 2 Quick was next to hook up and had a double hook up to boot. It's always fun to get a double hook up !!
At this point I went up and got some fresh nightcrawlers to offer the trout what they have been biting on for some time now . Set up with fresh n/c I casted out . A little while later sure enough I got one on the n/c set up . That was 3 trout in the basket for me and Omar 2. Now when I fish in a group I like to have fun and get competive and see who catches the most trout for braging rights . Omar was like were just fishing and I contunied to push the competiveness untill it was on. So, I am up by one trout with three and Omar has two .
Castaway , Fred and Noah are at zero trout on their stringers . Not for trying . Castaway tried everything and used his mad skillz has hard as he could today . Fred, farmed 4 trout by 11:00 AM.
Omar once agin was next to hook up and land a trout . He was all smiles knowing he and I are tied up with three torut a pice now . Noah kept busy with the fishing net and helped out as his Dad instructed him on netting a fish . Noah's was next to get a trout . He sure had fun reeling it in. At this point Omar is like "Team Omar " is in the lead 4 to 3 .
So I am determaned to make it a tie and get another one in the basket . Next thing you know I get a great hit on my n/c set up and go over to set the hook. Here is were I make two mistakes . First, I am not paying attention and smiling at Omar like I got this trout in the basket already and second, I did not get a solid hook set . Two bad mistakes that will lead me to losing the trout . And that trout was a good one . My drag was screaming and I know this is a much larger trout than anyone has landed today in our group. And very soon the trout come unhooked and my heart sank. Oh well. that's fishing .
Fred finally got to set a hook in a trout got it to the stringer .
The wind grew more strong as the day progressed . I felt bad in wanting to pack it in when Castaway was not on the board yet with a trout . He was ready to go when I asked and we packed it in for the day .
