Went to the Vine on Sunday for the trout opener with my uncle. Showed up to get in line at 10 pm and we were 3rd in line. Got bumped to first in the morning when they opened the second line and got the PRIME spot on the point in Woody's Cove. Aaron (Killafishtaco) gave me some Fish Dope the night before. So we threw our lines in, using a night crawler with bite on garlic scent. The uncle was using various powerbaits. Got my first on a yellow/white mini jig, it was a good 3 1/2 lb rainbow. For the next 2 hours, we got a couple bites every half hour missing a few and landing some. They were all good quality fish, very stoked with the fish Irvine has been stocking. THEN IT HAPPENED! My bait rod with the night crawler and bite on bent over, as soon as i grabbed the rod I could tell it was a big fish. It took 3 big runs and got tangled into about 6 lines going about 50ft up the shore. I saw the fish and my heart stopped, I knew this could be my first dd fish of the season. After about a 15 min fight I netted the fish. Got in the truck and went to the tackle shop to weigh it. It went 8 lbs 6 oz on their scale. Not my first double digit of the season but i was still pretty stoked! Got a coupe more fish on bait. I hear a guy walking by saying he saw some BIG browns in the very back of the cove. I grabbed my jig stick, and ran back there. I found a little honey hole, with 5 brown trout, no joke! Big ones, and 3 to 5 lb's, some of the biggest I have ever seen. I casted out to them, and one of the larger fish bit my spinner. and went straight into a submerged tree. Note to self: dont use 2 lb line for big browns around bushes! So i managed to land one, it was a 3 and half lber, and that was about it. Both ended up with limits, all good fish. I got my first Irvine brown, so all in all it was an awesome day at the vine! Staff at Irvine was awesome as always! Keep up the good work Irvine!
