Hit the duct this morning before sunrise. I had a couple of new things to try and had success on one new rig. Not a DD but a good 7lb or so. Released it to be caught another day. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic plus it was still dark. Surprisingly a calm and halfway warm early morning. Had a sleeveless shirt on and didn't need my hoody even. Tried to also look for some micros but could not find them today. Didn't really give it too much effort for them and was more concerned with trying the new rigs. One rig has to perform eventually. It looked too good to resist.

Flow was the same as has been for many weeks at 5/8 open but a steady, heavy flow. Water is getting super clear and you can see 5' under water. Minnows all over the place and getting larger by the week.

The one that caught the fish is called the yolo tickler. The other my striper mafia buddy Chris named the n-rig.

Yolo tickler is kind of like a French tickler for stripers. I bet it was a female that I caught :Big Grin:

The micros were out in force by Munz ranch last week.

Did you catch some or they were stealing your bait with bigger hook?

For me at this point, 7 lb would be a DDD!
Good job!
How do you work the soft plastics and bucktails Yolo? Your retrieve techniques?

All varies and I try it all. I throw in all directions (up flow straight across and down flow). I sometimes let it hit bottom and bounce it. I sometimes grind it back as soon as it hits the water. I sometimes let it sink a little and grind it back in the mid column. With all that I vary the retrieve speed, can pause and retrieve again, lift the rod tip and retrieve, drop the tip and retrieve and a combination of it all. The best is when you cast and as soon as th elure hits the water it gets nailed and the fish takes off. I think those times, I just happen to drop it right on em and they react to it instinctively. Many times you don't even get to crank the handle one turn and it's fish on. Yes sometimes it's easy as that but most of the time you have to work for em and cast hundreds and hundreds of times.

Forgot to add then in certain areas and when there is no flow or minimal flow, you can just vertical jig them too.
