marzocchi

Work flow was minimum, so I decided to take the day off and do some fishing. Went through my excel sheet with my gps numbers and looked at what I could fish for. A random scrolled down and it landed on "ndr01". These spots are over in the south coast and it has an excellent lingcod population. I have not fish this spot for quite some time and a lingcod dinner sounded nice, so I decided to give it go. I went down the list of people who are free to fish on weekdays and got 1 biter. Loaded the boat and off to the Newport. Made bait right outside the harbor then went to the local lingcod grounds. The lings were on the chew. We had numerous break offs, got rocked plenty of times and baits that came back with half their bodies. We only had 5 secs to turn their head or else it was good bye. We had a blast pulling these Lings out of their caves. We ended the evening with some prime lobstering. Pictures from my harvest:

Came right outside the harbor and metered a mixed school of sardines and mackerals. There was a large school of something below the mackeral. I thought it was migratory sand bass, but it was a thick school of market squid. Loaded up on mackeral, sardines and squid.

Kept on drifting and the big school of squid came up high and close to the boat. I did not bring any squid jigs, but the sabiki rig got the job done. Bait tank got filled and boat got dirty real quick.

First stop, the current was ripping, so I opted for the second spot on my list, which was further inside. Dropped down and I hooked up on a big Linger. Threw him in my new cooler.

Here is another Linger. This spot gets passed up the sporties and other pbers. It just looks like a small rocky hard bottom and void of any fish on the fishfinder. From what I am told it has a lot of big crevices for the lings to thrive. I am also told this place is a mecca for the lobsters. We'll check that later on.

Went back out to one of my deeper spot for the big Lingasarus, but the Vermillions were out in force. We could not get down to the bottom before the red snappers swallowed our live bait. Not a bad problem to have, but I did not want to catch these things. Pull the plug on this area and headed over to another spot.

Next spot, the salmon groupers and red snappers were also present. All nice big chunky fish. Could not get the bait down long enough for the Lings to come out of their hole before the by-catches latched on again. I had to move onto a whole new area.

Went further down the coast. This spot always has some nice size lings, but unfortunately, it was filled with even bigger reds. The Lingasarus I was looking for was not meant to be, so I called it a day and headed back in. Could have limited out on the big reds if we wanted too, but we had lobster bait making to do.

Went back in to make lobster bait and the sun was coming down. Headed over to the shallowest part of the ling spot to drop our nets. Here is Dennis with his limit. I wont blab my mouth like the last lobster report, just in case I mistakenly did or say something wrong again. It is 11pm right now and I am writing this report, so this gives you idea how things went. The lobster gods has been good to me this year. There are plenty of lobster around. Just go out to less obvious spots and away from the crowds. You will be handsomely rewarded.

This is not from todays trip, but previous trips I did not report. I know how you all hate it when people catch big lobsters, so I will only do lobster reports when I catch smaller ones, like today.
End of the day results were 3 lings kept, with a load of bocacciao, a mess of big vermillions, and a topping of lobsters. Thanks for deckhanding, food, cleaning the boat, pulling all the nets, buying bait, buying glow sticks, buying zip ties, contributing to the gas fund, skipping work, and the company, Dennis. Your OK in my book. Hope you all enjoy the read and pictures. See you all next time.
