ANAHEIM – A local man was killed and another was injured Saturday night when their boat overturned while they were lobster fishing near the Santa Monica pier.
Harbor patrol officers in that city were unable to resuscitate Lewis Anderson, 52, of Anaheim, after he and another man tried to swim ashore when their 25-foot fishing boat struck a breakwater roughly 50 yards north of the pier around 8:30 p.m. and overturned.ADVERTISEMENT

Anderson was unconscious and was being held afloat by the second man when officers retrieved the pair from the water roughly 150 feet from the shore using paddleboards, according to Santa Monica police Sgt. Thomas Burgess.
The men were trying to catch lobsters near the pier when one of their lines became entangled in the boat's propeller, according to a press release. Both were ejected when the boat drifted into the break wall. The men attempted to swim to the boat and Anderson became unconscious.
Rescue workers attempted CPR on Anderson at the scene. The pair was taken to Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center where Anderson was pronounced dead.
The second man, 42, of Huntington Beach, was treated for hypothermia and released, the news release said. His name was not immediately released.
Anderson's family could not be reached for comment.
Patrick Brennan, a neighbor of Anderson and his family, called him a "wonderful family man" with a passion for fishing on his boat "Dances with fish."
Los Angeles County lifeguard officials towed the boat to Marina Del Rey, Burgess said. Santa Monica police are investigating the incident as an accidental death.
