My wife and I headed up to Mammoth for a Day Trip up to Garnett Lake. When you're on an MICU rotation its tough getting out with only one day off at a time. Post call my wife drove up and I slept most of the way. We stayed overnight at one of our friends cabins which was nice. The next morning we were up and at it to the Garnett Trailhead. It was a very nice day, sunny and warm. We arrived at the lake and it was beautiful. Only one other fisherman was at the lake. We hiked 1/3 way around and I took a few casts off shore and caught a couple of brookies. Then blew up the boats and set out to do some trolling and try to catch some rainbows and brookies. Turns out the big clouds came and cold wind as soon as we got out on the boats. We didn't get a single bite. So we landed on the opposite shore and my wife catches three nice brookies in 4 casts! I think thats the best fishing she has ever experienced. We caught a bunch more before packing up and heading back out. It was a long hike back and it was quit dark by the time we got to the car. It sure is nice to have a little GPS on you leading the way home. That was it for our first day at Garnett. I'd love to go back and camp sometime and maybe try for the rainbows. One I kept for dinner had a mouse in its belly. Wow these guys will eat anything! All fish were caught on Thomas bouyant.

It's so beautiful up there... Looks like a really nice hike. Too bad the weather changed on you but you got some nice fish landed.

Sick trip up to Garnet. I've thought about doing it, but never got around to it. Especially not post call from MICU. Haha. I did a Convict Lake trip in the past post call from CCU. Had post post off, so I could pull it off. Still, that was car camping and not a long hike.

Strong work.

Great report and pics. That's awesome that your woman is into the backcountry and fishing too.

That’s quite a bit of hiking for a fishing outing – around 12 miles if I remember correctly.
Great post!

I think its 6 miles one way, so it all depends on how fast you are able to go! The first part of the hike in the valley is not bad at all, then the last little mile up to the lake is pretty steep.
