SORRY for the funky post. I hate this interface for FNN, it works like hell with my mac

i used to fish SARL almost every week a year ago with my uncle, but i seemed to have neglected my fishing ever since his passing. Time has passed and i have reignited my spark for fishing. As soon as i pulled up, i had a good feeling it is going to be a good trout season and i want to be neck deep in it. My friends, Jordan and Nate, and I hit up SARL on Sunday for the evening sess around 420 and were only 4 or 5 cars back in the line. They let us in early around 430, stoked, and we went straight to my favorite spot on the South Shore and posted up. The water level was pretty high, about 15ft from the top. Jordan threw out and inflated nightcrawler and almost instantly snagged this little guy.http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=48914ab9de&view=att&th=12bea6da6635482f&attid=0.1&disp=inline&zw

The night set in and to be honest it was pretty slow. We were throwing nightcrawlers with stinkbait for the cats, powerbait and nitro glow worms hoping for the first trout of the season. There was a slight breeze and rain clouds were starting to come in, but there was decent action in the water with a lot of jurmps. Around 8pm, the guys next to us caught a decent sized cat on the marshmallow/mealworm combo i have heard and read so much about. Next thing you know, all three of us start throwing marshmallows and mealworms and within minutes i got this little guy.

Took the hook out, and tossed him back in for another day. From about then on, the fish seemed to keep us pretty busy. The marshmallow/mealworm combo seems to be the ticket, because i was fishing one pole for trout and one for cats, and within the next hour, i caught two small 1-1.5lb catfish and Jordan caught a nice healthy 1.5lber that gave him a good fight! The rain started coming in and the lake seemed to calm down, but we still had a good time, eating cold pizza, drinking beer, and listening to music. We started cleaning up around 1015pm and at 1053 when i was taking my very last line in...Fish On!!! :Big Grin: Sooo stoked, caught the biggest fish of the night!!! A solid 2.5lb cat that gave me a hell of a fight and two really nice fillets!

Overall, really good to be back at SARL and i am definitely going back in the next couple days to get some more cats on the mallow/mealworm setup, that was definitely a hot ticket. bummed not to catch any trout, esp those tailwakers, but it is very obvious that the water is not cold enough yet, hence the good cat bite!

I've heard about the marshmallow/mealworm combo and never used it. How do you rig it? Do you put marshmallow on first and then mealworm? How do you put on the mealworm? Hook it once through the middle of the body? What is the leader length and what size hook? I've caught catfish on the sliding rig using all types of bait except this one.

I like to thread the mealworm on a size 10 j-hook, with a 6in leader, and put the marshmallow on the end. The trick is to mash up the marshmallow in your hand so it gets sticky and then put it on the end of the hook. This works great because the marshmallow sticks on there and holds the worm to the hook. I recommend it, it was like night and day when i started using it the other night.

Your uncle was a great man. Guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
Thanks for the report.
