I must admit that thoughts of the Team 57 "Godfather" crossed my mind quite a few times today. It was only a year ago when Dana and I worked this event side by side. I know that he was watching us from above today with a big smile on his face. This event exemplifies what Team 57 is all about. "Family, Friends, Fun & Fishing." Thank you Fisherman 57 for the legacy that we will continue to carry on in your memory. http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/10001/smile.gif

A fine example of the Team 57 spirit was evident to me as soon as I arrived at the event. The sun hasn't even come up yet and here comes a handful of members pulling up in the dark offering to help me set-up. I didn't even need to ask, they just showed up eager to lend a hand. Before I knew it, they were unloading my truck and setting up our base camp. Then another gesture of kindness, Robert "Murietta Angler" brought homemade breakfast burritos for EVERYBODY. We had fifty plus participants that came to the event and he fed us ALL! Thanks Robert for thinking of us, very, very cool of you. http://yoursmiles.org/tsmile/rulez/t2009.gif

Thank you Donna for all that you've done to make this event a huge success that it is. Donna donated a free Hunting Giants t-shirt to every event participant. I used to know somebody who exhibited that kind of generosity... http://elouai.com/images/yahoo/03.gif I'm proud of you...

Thanks to all that took the time to come out to join us and show your support. I know some of you had to drive quite a long way to get to this event and I want you guys to know that I appreciate that very much. A couple of you were feeling a bit under the weather but made it to the event anyway.

It was a pleasure meeting new members and hanging out with old friends. The conversations that I had with all of you guys are priceless. http://elouai.com/images/yahoo/14.gif

When picking a date for this event, I picked a date with a good tide for the area. But as always, we were at the mercy of Mother Nature. Even though it did not rain, I could not predict the swells so far in advance and it was quite challenging today to fish in such rough conditions. But this event was much more than just catching fish as we all know and appreciate. The good Perch bite kept us entertained and the solo legal Halibut proved to be the winning fish for the derby.

Congratulations to all the derby winners! http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-cool11.gif

Thank-you again to all the people who helped organize the event, thank you Arthur for the invite, and thank you Donna for the cool Hunting Giants shirt!

It was great meeting and fishing with everyone. I woke up in Orange county and it was pouring hard as i was passing Long Beach...i was a little concerned that the event would be canceled. Luckily the weather picked up and we were on our way to fish shorty after signing in. Conditions were tough but I quickly limited out on perch and spent the rest of the time combing the beach back and forth a few times....but no luck on picking up another species.

Robert, Steve, Tess, Jason...great to finally meet you guys (and girl) in person. Jerry, thanks again for the tips and the attempt to retrieve my lure... =) We'll fish together again soon, i want to hit up "that spot" again and maybe try something different there. All in all, a fun day getting to know the members and getting back in the water again for me after a long dry spell.

Great event Arthur. These events never disappoint. I think I can speak for everyone when I say, your generosity and genuine interest in seeing people have a great time is truly appreciated.

Donna, thank you very much for the T-shirt and beanie. It was great to finally meet you. For someone that didn't plan to fish, you sure stuck it out at the end throwing the LC while taking a beating by the surf.

Congrats to all the winners! See you out there next year.

Jason and I had such a great time for our very first Team 57 event! Many thanks to everyone who put this event together, you all did an awesome job!!

Wingnut, Steve, and John... it was great seeing you all again, it had been a while! Bones, Andrew, Jason, Brandon, Murrieta Angler (I didn't catch your real name, sorry!), and JerryG... nice meeting you all and we both hope to fish with you again sometime soon. Donna, I thought it was our first time meeting but I think we met at the Fred Hall Show this year. Thanks so much for the T-shirt and beanie! :Big Grin:

When we left the house at 5:45am, there was a heavy drizzle all the way to LA but luckily it cleared up. Got to the place, signed in, and we were ready to go! Thanks, Steve, for your "intel." But we missed the burritos, darnit!

This was my first time surf fishing in such harsh conditions but it was fun nonetheless. Got wrapped up in seaweed quite a few times... my line and my feet... almost ate it a couple times. But all in all it was a great experience and I look forward to participating in more events like this. Didn't take too many pics but here's what I have. Enjoy!

I had a great time visiting with alot of new faces to me at the event. Fishin dad and his daughter were monster tag team in the surf. Trolley was all smiles all day. I enjoy watching Arthur twitchin while sitting in his chair observing all the participants. He got to fish for a short time, and got to smile at a couple fishes in the process. FNN is a great group of people, from all walks of life, who are friendly and outgoing. TO in waders was picture worthy. Perhaps we can do another one up here in Santa Barbara during the winter. I'll make a big pot of clam chowder to warm everyone up after the fishing. What do you think Arthur?

Special thanks to the people that made the event possible. We met a bunch of cool people and had an awesome time out there for our first Team 57 event. We'll be back again next year for sure.

Bones, Jason, Andrew, JerryG, Murrieta Angler, Swank, and Brandon it was a pleasure meeting you guys. Wingnut, Steve, and Klocked it was good seeing you guys again. And of course I was finally glad to meet the mastermind behind the entire event... Mr. Wingnut Pug!

Steve, thanks for guiding us in the right direction. The conditions were rough out there and for a moment I couldn't help but daydream sitting high and dry fishing aboard the Spotted Fever.

Wingnut, thanks for hosting the tournament. After this event I think Tess and I will incorporate a little more surf action into our fishing regimen.

Donna, thanks for the t-shirts and beanies. It was nice to change into something clean and dry after fishing in rough conditions.

Andrew, good meeting you and thanks for snapping pics. It was good to have an eyewitness for Tess' final catch of the day.

Klocked, Swank, Brandon we all need to tube it up sometime. Swank and Brandon good luck out there today. I'm rootin for you guys. :Thumbs Up:

Congrats to all the winners of the event and hope to see everyone again next year.

After almost a week of drizzle and sometimes light to heavy rain, and some serious thunderstorms & lightning it was great to arrive at the Event and see the "Moonlight" peaking through the clouds! I knew at that point there was some "Divine Intervention" going on!

"THANK YOU" DANA!!!!!!

Thanks to Donna, Arthur, Wingnut PUG, and those behind the curtains, and off course all the "FNN Gang" for making it another successful event!

It was great fun for me this year to not concentrate on the fishing but to get around to see and harass some good friends, become reacquainted with some folks from past events or fishing trips together, and to meet the folks that I have only connected with through key strokes on the computer!

Sorry to anyone if you felt like I intruded you space while getting your action shots! There is a mission to my madness!

Look forward to the next Event or when we just happen to get together again whether it is planned or unplanned!

Wow! What an amazing day! From first meet up to the sudden death "fish off" to the infamous coin toss and everything in between.

Arthur - Thank you for everything you do and making this entire event come together. I couldn't do any of this without you and I'm proud to call you my friend. Also, thanks for the wake up call that morning when I shut my alarm off and fell back asleep! :Big Grin:

Robert (Murietta Angler) - Thank you for the delicious breakfast burritos! Helped everyone get their morning started. Cool pipe fish you found. Thank you for letting me snag that.

Erica - Thanks for all the conversation and laughs....as usual. Thank you for also wearing your jeans in the water so I didn't look and feel so dumb!

Congrats to all the winners! What a fun time! I don't think I've ever heard of a sudden death "perch off". Greg - I can't believe your line broke off, you ran all the way back up th beach to re-tie, ran back down, and still managed to pull third place. Truly entertaining and impressive. Tess - Girl power! Just what this event needed!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you to everyone for making this another successful Team 57 event! We had a great turnout and everyone seemed to truly enjoy themselves. Lots of laughing, introductions, conversation, and story telling.......That's what we're all about. I enjoyed putting faces to names and catching up with friends as I walked up and down the beach. Trolly............Entertaining as usual. Thanks for not taking a bite out of anything your weren't supposed to.

It was great seeing all the kids enjoying themselves as well. I was a little lost without my 2 rugrats. Kaity had a big marching band competition in Hemet that day (Which they took 5th out of 25 bands) and Brennan.........Well, the Conejo Kid had some lagging school projects to take care of  School first.

City Dad and City Girl - You guys are just amazing. Loved watching the team work. Kelly.....you are a perch fighting machine. You sure showed the "boys" a thing or two! Congrats!

Bones - your kids are beautiful and PURE entertainment. It was great seeing them pull those perch out and then have a UFC smack down in the sand. Priceless.

Of course, surf fishing is my favorite and I tried really hard to stay OUT of the water but that just wasn't going to happen. I purposely wore jeans to the event and planned on just working the event with Arthur and talking with the members. It started with getting my feet wet and before you know it I'm with Erica, waist deep in the water. I guess I paid for it later. Driving home I was not feeling great. After a quick shower I spent the rest of the weekend in a blanket with the flu. Worth every minute! :Big Grin:

Definitely bigger and better things to come for Team 57! I have some future events in the works......A trout event announced very soon.....An event on The Tradition with Jimmy and Phil.....Parchers again this summer! Stay tuned for details.

I love this Team and all the "family members" that make it up. You guys are great and I can't wait to see you all again.

First of all .....A big warm hearted thanks to Arthur Lai aka Wingnut and the SWAT leader for keeping the TEAM 57 legacy alive. Dana....I felt your spirit in every grain of sand ...... Every drop of saltwater and every breath of ocean breeze!
Donna.....You are simply amazing and a one of a kind lady. It was awesome meeting everyone....Some old friends and some new ones for sure. I was proud to introduce them to my SWAT fellowship and all of the people who I've grown to love on this board. My kids had a great time meeting everyone and today I'm taking my daughter Lucy to go shopping with her Wingnut Pug babysitting money. She definately fell in love with Baby!
Arthur....I can't say enough good about you my friend. The world would be a better place with more people like you. Your one class act buddy and Dana would be very proud of you and your commitment towards TEAM 57 and also making sure that Donna and the kids will be ok.Even though I only caught four perch my cheeks are still sore from laughing and smiling all day long. It was alot of work keeping my kids on fish and doing the perch dance for a few hours.
Congrats to all of the winners and also to Saltman for the top prize of cash and quality trophy.I personally think that Native Gal brought some of her magic potion from her tribe and sprinkled your soul with good luck for the day.....LOL
You really worked hard for that legal halibut buddy and you deserve the win!
I loved the perch off at the end......always a way to work it out and I knew that Arthur would figure out how to make it fair. That was his leadership qualities shining at the right moment.
Can't wait until Hunting Giants III .....MMMMM....Maybe a Bi-annual event....Yeah....That's it!

Lt. Bones----- out!

PS.....Robert....The Chorizo con huevos burritos were great and my kids want to say thanks alot! They really hit the spot!

What a great event! I was having fun and enjoying everybody's company up to the moment I stepped in a hole in the sand and heard my ankle pop. Started swelling up pretty quick and i had to hightail it outa there to get to urgent care. 6 weeks on crutches. That's what I get for being lazy and not putting on my waders and join everybody in the surf. I had a great time conversing with my SWAT brothers and met a bunch of new members. Team 57 always put on a first class event. Arthur, it all comes down to the "New" leader of Team 57. It's a given that the torch is handed to someone such as yourself. I remember that you told me once "Love is when you care about the other person's happiness, more than you care about your own." That kind of unselfish attitude is what sets you apart from most people and makes you a natural leader. :Thumbs Up: Thanks for putting everybody's happiness before your own and it was quite evident on Saturday. Donna, your generosity is also second to none, I'll get my HG2 shirt from Arthur later. Dana gave me a free shirt at my first Legends event and it seems that he instilled the same spirit of kindness in you. :Big Grin: It is good to be in the company of such great people. Team 57 rocks FNN and SWAT rules the surf! Can't wait until the next event.

Hello Everyone!!!
First and foremost, Thank You Arthur & Donna for putting on this wonderful event.
I had a great time getting to see and meet some of the Team 57 members and actually having a conversation with some.
I would have been a little more talkative that day but I actually had an earache and swollen tonsils that day, when I woke up to get the burritos going.

I would also like to say thanks to everyone that I didn't get to meet and hope in the future we will meet and have a nice conversation.

Steve, sorry no pictures Bud. I went to download from my camera to computer and I lost them some how!!!
I HATE COMPUTERS!!!!

Take Care All & May God Bless All Of You!

Robert

This was a great event. It was good to see friends and also got to meet some good people. I want to give a big thanks to Arthur, Donna, and the Wing Pug too for making this event happen.

Jason and Tess- It was nice meeting you two and congratulations to Tess on getting second place.

Bob (Trout Only) – I have been reading your reports for years it was cool to finally have the opportunity to meet /fish with you. Listening to the adventures you had as a child growing up in Torrance / Redondo fishing King Harbor brought me back to my own childhood. Memories of hoisting nice bonita up on to rocks back when crocodiles, broken back rebels and the all mighty bubble and feather ruled. It didn’t take long for me to realize that you have a wealth of fish catching knowledge and skill that few angers will ever know. It was privilege to fish with you Bob.

DeadRoots – It was nice meeting and talking with you Paul. Good luck with school it sounds like you have bright future ahead of you.

Sansou- It was nice meeting/ talking to you Rich. Thanks for making the long trip up to our neck of the woods.

Klocked- It was good seeing you again John.

Saltman- It was nice meeting you Ramiro. Catching that halibut was no easy task considering the conditions. Congratulations on winning the tournament and welcome to the Team. Looking forward to the next mission.

Exfactor- It was great to finally meet you Mikey. Looking forward to fishing again soon on a SWAT fishin mission.

FishSauce- It was great meeting and fishing with you. If the weeds were not so bad I’m confident we would have caught some fish off that spot we stopped on. You didn’t miss out on anything by heading out. I stopped on an area that looked really good but the enemy did not want to come and play. Looking forward to fishing with you again soon.

BSP- We missed out there Marc. Hope your feeling better dude.

Blackwater- It was good seeing you Phuong. Hope to fish with you again soon my friend.

Bones and Family-It was good times hanging out. It looked like the kids had a good time. Hope everything went well with that birthday party.. Was Madusa waiting for you?Looking forward to fishing with you again soon Mike.

Flyngby- Good see you Steve. Hope your schedule allows you to do some fishing soon.. It certainly is tough being away from the water. Hopefully we will fish again soon.

Wingnut- Thanks again Arthur….As always well done my Friend.

Perhaps we can do another one up here in Santa Barbara during the winter. I'll make a big pot of clam chowder to warm everyone up after the fishing. What do you think Arthur?

Arthur, I am down with helping exfactor on convincing you of doing one up here soon. If he wants to get the chowder I 'll get the sourdough bread. Just give me a shout out and I 'll be there.

Can't wait until Hunting Giants III .....MMMMM....Maybe a Bi-annual event....Yeah....That's it!!

A bi-annual surf fishing event sounds like a GREAT idea! :Big Grin: I know we have more than enough interest and support from "The Team" to make it happen. I already have people asking me about having one in the O.C. or even in the San Diego area. I will look into to the regs at these places, but I think Santa Barbara would be a wonderful place to hold another surf fishing event. Can you guys help me look into the regs to hold an event at a few beaches up there? Stearns Wharf area, Carpinteria, Refugio, Goleta or maybe El Capitan... Somewhere with easy access and lots of parking.

Wingnut Pug says, "Let's have another one!" :Big Grin:
