Was thinking of hitting up Irvine on Monday... are the kitties still out there playin? Seems like they're in the flats by the treeline huh?

My sources tell me the bite has been going strong this week under grey skies...good luck.

Spanked the kitties once again.
I watched 5 or 6 boats fishing the trees that were watching me catch all the fish while they caught nada!
The drop off is about 50 feet off the treeline but it doesn't really start "happening" until 6 or 7 pm.
tight lines....

So I wake up around 3:45 to get my stuff ready and what do I hear? RAIN.... Decided to wait til Saturday to go. The rain let up by the time I woke up the second time (around 9 am) but I figured if I wait til Saturday, I'd get to do a little night fishing. I guess everything happens for a reason. So about 50 feet off the treeline there's a drop off huh? The last time I was there, the trees all look submerged. I'm assuming the water level went down now so should I be aiming about 50 feet from the trees or the shoreline? I know there's plenty of places to fish from the flats so I guess I'll have to just pick one and see what I get.

If you have a fish finder, there's a ledge about 50 ft in front of the tree line. It slopes from 17 ft. (20 ft. off the trees) to about 52 ft (about 80 ft. off the trees). A big drop off happens between 25 and 50 ft.
I've been anchoring at about 20 ft. and fishin' over that drop off.:Secret:
This same drop off runs the length of that shore, getting shallower toward the creek (good all along here).
Get the right bait too, raw, head on shrimp and a mack.
I'll be there either Fri. or Sat. night too in a beige Starcraft.
tight lines...

5 that were 2 - 4 pounders.
Tons of hits, they seemed to equally like the shrimp or mack, together or one or the other.
It didn't start happening until about 7:30pm?
tight lines....

Got to the lake around 4pm. Bad news was that due to the rains the night before, the roads to the flats were too muddy to drive. Ended up fishing near the docks and got 4 catfish. All around 2 pounds or so. Shrimp and mackeral or a combo of both. They started biting after 7pm. The weather was awesome. No wind, not too cold, barely any people there. Great way to end the catfish season. Thanks for those who replied to this thread with tips. Too bad I couldn't go out to the flats (too lazy to walk with all my gear) but it ended up working out.
