Wow! Looks like a saltwater set-up for Batrays! A Pyramid sinker? A Sabre rod? Your taking all the fun out of the way a catfish fights. We use a light 6 -7 ft spinning rod, 6 lb test and no sinker. Just a chunk of mackerel, or a ball of Velvetta cheese. You don't have to cast vey far either.

I see a lot of people with big ol sinkers and huge rods there. They are all casting out to the far side of the island.

yup it is a saltwater set up..me and couple friends did sm night fishing last night at redondo beach . i also use light gear but i had my saltwater tackle wt me so just decided to cast out pretty far and thats were i caught him at. would have been more fun if i had caught him on my lil spinning rod lol..umm valvetta cheese ima have to give that a try.
