Went camping at convict lake for my birthday this past weekend. The weather couldn't have been better but the fishing was only alright. Friday we tried my ol' trusty spot and caught two nice stockers right off the start but then nothing the rest of the day. Saturday I tubed the whole lake from sunup to sundown, end to end and threw everything in the box and only caught one. My friends went down to the inlet and fished from shore and they also got skunked. Sunday morning woke up early determined to catch something so we went to another trusty but overlooked spot right off the rocks in front of the marina. Six of us almost limited out within an hour and my friend caught a beautiful 2 1/2 pound alper. Made me mad and happy at the same time cuz I've been going up to the sierra's for my hole life and have not caught one yet. I've had them on the line but lost them one way or the other. Monday we packed up and went to try benton crossing but find out the owens river closed on the first of the month. Bumbed me out because I love that spot so the we went down passed bishop to collins road and caught a couple there even though I don't know if it was closed or not too. Overall exellent time!
