Went out to LB Jetty with my lil bro and cousin. Brought some live smelt with us for some bait & wait, while we tossed BHs & Basstrixs. Caught lots of shorties on the swimbaits, and i caught this LEGAL off the live smelt. 23in Halibut, my 1st keeper.

Thanks guys! Yeah my pops deep fried it. I was hoping he wouldve baked it, then have it sit on some sweet & sour sauce, but we had no time. Still good eatin though, thats for sure!

Way to go, man. It's so much easier to get a legal with live bait.
But when you get a legal on a lure, it's usually a whopper.

Nice halibut! i've fished that area a couple times, never had any luck at all... Where'd you get the smelt from?

I've gotten the skunked in the jetty a couple times too. But it takes time. But I got the smelt at Belmont Pier before heading to the jetty. Go get em!
