I was elected to do the posting deeds today, as most of you readers probably like to hear someone else's take on our extra curricular activities. The gang wanted to head up to my neck of the woods this weekend, but after hearing Arthurs exploits yesterday, I quickly changed that tune. We Started out EARLY, so get up at 3:30, load my gear, and head down south. The drive was uneventful, listening to my YES CD, getting amped for our rendevous.
gearing up

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture002-24.jpg

We follow the guy with the headlight down the steep pathway, stepping carefully, dodging bushes, chanting "lions and tigers and bears, oh my" to the beach. Did I say it was early?
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture003-24.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture014-23.jpg

I'm armed with my trusty A1, and choose to wait a bit until I cast, and watch Arthur and Bones going " I can't see to cast", and "why aren't you fishin Mikey?"

And it was a spectacular sunrise! No wind, water fairly clean, and tide coming in to high. Arthur draws first blood, like none of you saw that coming! lol. But, only a grass rockfish, definitely not a ghost.

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture006-25.jpg

Bones is next up, hangs the bottom, starts jerking his rod, then it starts pulling back. nice flatty.

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture011-23.jpg

Arthur throws in to Bones's spot, and bam another legal!
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture013-21.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture012-21.jpg

I'm sticking with my iron, but no surface activity, and no sign of bait. I change over to the swimmie. After about 20 minutes, I hook a rock, and the rock wins. Meanwhile, apparently Arthur struck up a conversation with a babe up at the parking lot at O dark thirty, and here she comes down the beach, hitting on our illustrious leader for a phone number! She told him she goes to UCLA, so since Arthur's a USC allumni, he figured it would never work. lol.
We work down the beach a bit, and Arthur strikes again. I know, broken record. Another legal butt.

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture015-22.jpg

So I'm getting "comeon Mikey" your turn, and by now I'm throwing the lucky lc. The day was getting warmer and warmer. Bones and I taking a stogey break.
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture023-16.jpg

We get to the point, and Bones has some obligations for the PM, so we start working our way back. About halfway back, I pull a rabbit for the skunkbuster.

And, my favorite shot of the day, almost back to our rides.
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture039-9.jpg
We saved a guy who locked his keys in his ride, then did IHOP for breakfast, and crumpets. Whenever we all get together, we always seem to end up talking about girls gone bad, or the kids gone bad, or, oh you know what I mean. So, afterwards, I named our three legal butts caught today, Lucy, Desi, and Ricky. thanks Lucy, Desi, and Ricky for letting us pull you out of your holes, take a picture, and send you back. The bucket brigade really wanted you to go home with them, but luckily, you bit the right bait today. Thats my story, and I'm sticking to it. Tight lines gang.

Boy ohhhhhh Boy....What a long day but At least we all avoided the skunk and the company was great as always.
Great read Mikey. I had a great time fishing with you bro. Even though the bite was a tough one today like it has been for a few weeks.......The enemy still fell !!

Another look at this drag pull........

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut4/Wingnut5/Wingnut%206/Wingnut%207/Picture027-14.jpg

WTF.........That had to be the most high spirited Cabezon in the pacific. Every other one I've caught just sandbagged it in. At first I thought I was on a nice flattie but that Cabezon fought like a little champ. It actually pulled drag three times !
Hey....Is that a bobber in the water?......LOL

I told Arthur that I'm determined to stick that legal WSB since I've only stuck one on my float tube two years ago and she was barely 28" so ..........I'm probably going to do some dawn patrols this week.
Magic can really happen at greylight.........I've seen it many times.Just ask the WSB whisperer

I'm quite confident that the general would have stuck his Ghost today if his focus hadn't been altered by a very cute legal butt of another kind...LOL
He was just cross wired by his testosterone.......Focus Arthur.....FOCUS!
Arthur......Put the UCLA thing aside......Look at it this way brotha.......Olive oil and basalmic viniger have completely different qualities and will divide in a jar but well mixed they make a wonderful dressing. One flavor complements the other......morals and values are the shaker. Different points of view can be a blessing! Besides.......She was cute, courageous enough to approach you in the surf and Oh....did I say......Very yummy looking!
How many times has THAT happened to you in the surf? What was that you said about "Opportunity and how it's presented to you" today?
Listen to you own words my friend!
Poseidon and the man upstairs might be trying to tell you something........She was at the darn beach before the sun came up dude!
A word of caution though.........
If she starts calling you "Professor Wingnut" run for your life

Time to "Get Er Done" !!!

LT. BONES --------- Debriefing complete ;)

Mikey, thank for waking up at the crack of dawn and taking the long drive to join Mike & I this morning. Had a great time fishing with you my friend. Man, I really wanted to see you hang a big WSB with your iron today, but they moved out of the area. Good fishing, good friends, good food... everything was good today. :Big Grin: The fishing is only going to get better! Let's hit up that new spot up in your neck of the woods next weekend. :Secret: Take care and I'll see ya soon.

hahahaa :Envious: I love it! you guys are machines out there. Great Pics guys.

Ive gotten there around 4 oclock at times and man let me tell you, some scary stuff lol

Ive also happened to see those bucket fillers there before. Usually empty buckets, except for the occasional Perch and YFC. Cant ever understand why you would take a 5 inch perch home, but whatever tickles their pickle.

Good Job out there guys!
Tight lines and in this case panties

Mikey, thanks for an excellent report, and way to beat down the skunk with that flattie. Even though there were no WSB, I have a good feeling that your surface iron will stick some giants eventually. Looking forward to seeing what it pulls up, and I hope to hit the surf with you sometime soon!

Mike, congrats on sticking the first legal of the day, and also for getting that cabezon. Very interesting fish to pull from the surf, and further proof that that area holds some unique possibilities. Glad that there were legals of the other kind too, and hopefully we'll be surf fishing again in the near future!

Arthur, what can I say, you've done it again! Two legal halibut in one day is a solid surf fishing trip in anybody's book, even though no WSB appeared. As for the whole UCLA and USC deal, ARTHUR YOU TRAITOR!!!! USC HAS WAY BETTER GIRLS!!! HOW COULD YOU FORGET YOUR DGs AND THE KKGs!!!

Anyways, looking forward to our next surf outing... and this time Dad and I are up for some grey light fishing.

Fish ID: I'm going with rainbow perch.

All the best guys,

It's funny how you guys call a THREE legal Halibut day a slow day... Just because you guys are so spoiled with the recent White Sea Bass bite. Most people would give anything to have such a "slow" day. Nice job all the way around Art, Mike and Mikey.

As for the extra curricular activities, I'm not surprised that the Commander's luck is not isolated just to fishing. I've seen the Wingnut's charm, as he would call it the "Asian Persuasion", at work so many times. LOL No matter where we are, at the beach, at parties at any social events. Funny to see other guys work so hard to talk to women trying to get their attention and looking like fools, while Art just smile, say a couple of things and all of the sudden, you can tell that they immediately took interest by their body language. What can I say, the Man lives a charmed life. The Good Guys do win once in awhile.
But Arthur, seriously how long do you expect to keep up with these girls half your age?!? :Big Smile:

Why is Arthur not responding to any of us?

OK! Game On! Got this from Arthurs Twitter Page!

Mike, Mikey, and I hit up our AO today in the extreme grey light, but things were different!

While waiting for the "Geriatrics" to get suited up along came a stranger! I secretly interrogated the individual as potential "Spy" due to us being on yet another "Covert Operation!" She cleared the initial security clearance and was released!

Slower day of fishing today but we were all able to catch a few fish even though my mind was elsewhere! My mind kept going in an alternative direction!

Here I am having a great time with my "SWAT Buddies"

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/brainwashed.png

Soon I would be distracted again when the "SPY" was again gathering intel of our operation!

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/hottie.png

We go on to another nice lunch session as usual but my appetite is a little off! We part our ways and then this is when my memory fades a little bit! Don’t worry Arthur as it comes with age!

Hi “Wingnut Pug!”

How was your day?

Why do you have the Fireplace going?

What’s with the bottle of wine?”

Hey! Who deleted the Redskins Game I Recorded"

Again the “Enemy Spy” appears out of nowhere!

What is happening here!

Hi Professor Wingnut!

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/professor.png

I have tickets to the UCLA Game next Saturday?

Sorry even your Custom Wheel Chair can’t get you out of town fast enough!

Well done once again my friends. I see our SWAT Commander was leading the charge on all fronts sea and land. Arthur pulls off yet another multi species day with the right kind. I know you guys have been saying the bite is slow but you guys have been in to some nice fish. Not much in the way of numbers but the qaulity of the fish your catching makes up for it. I would take qaulity bite over a numbers bite anyday.

I miss being out there and I miss fishing with you guys. Hopefully I will be able to make it one day this weekend. Good luck out there this week Mike.

You guys are brutal... I feel like I'm back in high school again.

We were putting on our waders and getting our gear together in the parking lot before sunrise. She was in her car with three of her friends parked behind us. She walked up to me and asked what time is sunrise because she and her girlfriends were going on a hike. I said around 6:20 or so and told her not to start until there was enough light because the area was quite treacherous and dangerous to be scrambling around in the dark. We chatted for a bit and then I said, "Sweetheart, I really thought for a moment that we had a future together, but then I noticed your UCLA sweatshirt..." We had a good laugh and I told her and her friends to have fun and to be careful down there, that was it. The boys and I hiked down in the dark and hit the surf. About an hour or so later, she came down with her friends and was following us along the beach as we worked the surf. She motioned to me to come over so I backed out of the surf to see what's up? She says that she was wondering if I would like to go have coffee with her sometimes if I can overlook the fact that she was a UCLA student. LOL Even though I thought she was a bit young, I admired her for her boldness for approaching me in front of the boys. I gave her my number... after all, you can never have too many friends.

All jokes aside if your fortunate enough to catch yourself a keeper it might be worth it to sack up your catch and call it quits or could let her go and keep fishing...

Arthur I saw your picture in Western Outdoor News today with your seabass from last week. Headlines read something like "SWAT TEAM Commander foils the enemy once again with a suprise grey light attack along the Malibu Coast". "Commander Wingnut released the enemy after a quick interogation and photograph". Actually it may have been phrased a little differently in the write up.
