View Full Version : How to keep lobster fresh?

Hey guys, what's the best way to keep lobster fresh? I know you should wet a towel and cover them with it but how long do lobster live out of water? Lets say I fished like at 1am, will they still be alive around 5pm or do I have to cook them that morning?

In mild weather, I've had them keep for a couple days in my garage.

My dads friend keeps them whole in the fridge semi frozen in a wet cloth. When they thaw they start moving. He tells me they will stay alive for 2 weeks in the fridge. I have not been able to test because I eat them all within 2 or 3 days.

wet paper, seaweed, wet towel...or yes, when the garage is cold just leave them in the bucket in the cold....not in the backyard....chased a raccoon away before

Thank you guys, just wanted to make sure "if" I catch anything this Friday I will have fresh live lobster for dinner on Saturday or Sunday. Hopefully I'll have a report this weekend.

if i catch on friday,they are split in 2 and on bbg with onions and a lil butter by sat around 3-4 ish.oh yeah dont forget the coronas..........lol

I brought 2 - 5 gal buckets of SW home and had 2 bugs in a basic small fish tank with a bubbler and no filter for 2 weeks till I served them to my dad when he came to visit.
Usually put then in the fridge in a 18" tall stainless pot so they won't crawl.
They live easy 24 hours in the fridge but you must contain them or they will walk around and make a mess.
