Hit the upper lake after taking the disabled kids on the lagoon Saturday morning.
Finding any solid action was a bit challenging, weird weather too…started pouring rain on us for about 45 minutes to an hour then switched to what must have been 100 degrees !
We pressed on looking for topwater action…
Whewwww…hot out there…
When I could actually see through the sweat pouring into my eyes, I metered fish but not in their regular staging patterns and not as many as should be in their normal regions….
So we trolled for a bit….still a little slow…..
And hookup !
I battled it in and about ľ ways to the boat it shook off !
Ohhh well…..I think it was a LMB anyways : (
We trolled for a little more and I made an executive call…
“Let’s stop this trolling and search…..get heavy into search mode”
I told Hiro this….he agreed !
So hit and miss….we pressed on…
I ended hooking into a striper……Hiro readies the net and my pride did me in…
I said…I AIN’T netting no 3lb schoolie !......I said
AND as I tuna boated ‘em in….he shook off right at the rail : (
Oh well ….wah…wump wump wump wahhhhhh ! (ahhhh ha ha ha)
We fished on….
Hiro lands a striper on KPN
I land a largemouth on the KPN…..
We see a little popping here and there about 100 yards away…..we move on it…
Hiro hooks up mr stripey…..
Swoosh !
I hook up !
I battle it in and it’s another LMB ! : (
As I tuna boat it into the boat…..
He’s in the boat but still in the air (bout 2 ˝ lbder)
He spits the lure and the bent rod action bow and arrows the lure towards me and the KPN sticks into my wrist !
Didn’t really hurt at all it was so quick…
I calmy told Hiro…
We got a problem !
“What” Hiro says…..
I’m hooked !
But keep fishing….stay on it !
I tried and tried but I had TWO of the shanks BURRIED into my wrist DEEP !
I had no room for movement to push the hook points through to cut the barbs off..
Finally I had to facilitate some help from Hiro….
Painfully I tell Hiro…
“Just do it….get it done !
As Hiro tried to push the hookpoints through the skin just continued to stretch…
I swear it must have stretched 3-4 inches out from my wrist !
Finally we took the hook off the KPN and I had Hiro hold the hook with the pliers steady and I painfully pushed the hook point through on hook #1
Hiro cut it off and it slipped right out easily…
Hook point # 2 was a little easier to deal with now cuz when I was dealing with #1 it was always pulling #2 deeper…
So # 2 still stretched to the limit then finally the skin broke and the hook point shove through….
Hiro cut the barb and I was back to fishing and something was REALLY gonna die NOW !
Man…I’m not kidding…that was REAL close to a big vein in my wrist, glad it didn’t hook the vein !

We pounded that zone for another 3-4 stripies on KPN’s…most off dead water
Then
It slowed….
We searched on…….all over…hard to find activity !
I see 1 fish blow-up !
I sling to it…
Landed 9 inches past the strike zone..
….I work it through….
Blowup…
Missed….
Blowup…..Missed
Blowup !
Feeel the steel sucka !
ANOTHER LMB……
Strong leapin fight !
(stopped for a pic for Khanh on this one!-!)

We fished on…we scratched at them by working real hard….
I hooked what felt to be a much nicer unit…..
drag peeling
rod bending
I am guessing I must have had a fray in my line cuz that sucka broke me off and I know my drag was set right : (
Oh well…better to have loved and lost than never love at all right ?
More pounding and scratching fish out….again most on dead water but we got into 1 more boil that I got 4 blowups from and Hiro landed 1 out of…
We ended up landing 9 Stripers and 3 LMB and lost a few others including the breakoff.
All in all good times for a ˝ day fishing…
Didn’t really take action shots as we were too busy just trying to make it happen….
I’ll post a pic of all the kills a little later….we stopped at lakeside marine afterwards and layed the feesh out for a quick photo…
