If you going to camp around mammoth area all the lakes are doing well
june/silver and gull doing good as well
if you feel like driving to tayoga pass, try lake tayoga ! Monster alpers and browns
as far as owns river goes im not sure
all of the above have easy access and i think gramps will love it

For the last thirty years or so I have been camping in October at either South Lake or Sabrina. Just throw your stuff in a boat (either yours or a rental) and camp on the back end of either lake. No other campers this time of year on those lakes so you'll have the place to yourselves.
