I'm going to get a furuno navnet system and have everything figured out except which transducer and why. The boat is a 24' walkaround. Can anyone tell me how much better a 1 kw transducer is going to be than 600 w. through hull or transom? Can i use an in hull system? less holes more peace of mind. Any help would be appreciated

Thru hull is better. Transom is good for having trophy fish sawed off.
I got 600 w Airmar with a high speed fairing block about 3' forward of the transom.
Check out the high speed fairing blocks or go thru hull.

your transducer mounts on the hull on the bottom? i saw fairing blocks but they looked like through hull transducers still

The kayak shape fairing block is about 12" long and 4" thick.

You have to cut the fairing block in half.

Here is how I installed mine.

Found a spot for it.
Leveled the boat then useing a angle finder determined I had a 18 degree angle on the bottom of the boat.

Sawed the block in half at 18 degrees on a table saw.
1/2 gets glued inside the boat and 1/2 gets glued outside the boat.

The hull angle cut is so the transducer points straight down.

Then had to drill about a 1 1/2" hole in the bottom of the boat for the brass transducer.

Sealed it up with 3M 5200 and has been sitting in the water for 3 years.

Works Great.

If you go with a fairing block make sure it is clear of your trailer bunks.

Type in TRANSDUCER on photobucket.com or Youtube.com

Good luck, DR

thanks for the info. the airmar transom mount 260 looks like a it'll do a great job. I have a 200 horse outboard , a swimstep, a speedo and a temp unit in the back already. What would be comparabletothe tm260 in a thru hull ?
